3. Victoria Falls Tour – Zambia & Zimbabwe
Experience the sheer splendor of the legendary Victoria Falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe, and stare awestruck as the cascades plunge into the gorge below with thick smoke-like mist rising above them. Revel in the rainbows and the spray falling on you.
The legendary Victoria Falls have been mesmerizing their spectators for centuries. In fact, the local Kololo people called them the Mosi-oa-Tunya which translates to “The Smoke that Thunders” and revered them as the abode of a God. Ever since the first time David Livingstone set foot at the falls and stood entranced, travelers from all over the world have felt exactly the same way. As you stand to watch the roaring Zambezi River pour 500 to 600 million liters of water per minute over the lip of the canyon during the peak waters, you will be enchanted by the sound of the roar and the sight of the white mist rising above, sometimes so thick that it obscures the falls themselves along with the rainbows that adorn them. This natural wonder seems to change phases with the seasons. Just after the wet season, the volume of water increases manifold and its sheer force is awe-inspiring. The mist turns into rain, and you might even need to come prepared with ponchos. But, during the dry season, the strength of the water abates on the Zambia side, and combining the falls tour of the Zimbabwe’s side maximizes your viewing opportunities of the best of both worlds.
