If you are planning a tourist or business visit to Uganda, you will need a valid visa. At the time of applying for this mandatory application, be sure to explicitly specify the correct date of your arrival based on your flights and the length of time you intend to vacation in the country. It’s recommended that you apply for the visa well in advance of your intended visit.

Here’s how you can apply for entry into the country:
  • Log onto the website https://visas.immigration.go.ug and apply online for an E-visa
  • If required, apply online for a visa that covers Uganda, Kenya, and Uganda (East African Tourist Visa), which allows you multiple entries to tour all three countries
  • Visit the Ugandan Embassy in your city and put in your application
To enter Uganda for your holiday, your passport must be valid for 8 months from the date of arrival. All visitors must carry a valid yellow fever immunization certificate to be allowed entry into Uganda. Ugandan law permits citizens of specific countries to enter without a visa. You can confirm whether your country qualifies by checking the Ugandan immigration website or talking to a representative at AfricanMecca Safaris. Note that visa requirements may change without notice, so it’s best to confirm with authorities prior to your trip.

Countries Exempt of Visa Requirements

If you belong to a country that has a bilateral agreement with Uganda, you may be eligible to tour or visit the country without a visa. Countries falling under this category include:

Angola, Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Burundi,Botswana, Comoros, Cyprus, Eritrea, Fiji, Gambia, Grenada, Ghana, Italy(Diplomatic Passport holders only), Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Libya,Malawi, Malta, Mauritius, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone,Singapore, Solomon Islands, St. Vincent and Grenadines, Swaziland, Tanzania,Tonga, Vanuatu, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Applying for the Visa at the Ugandan Consulate

Those wishing to apply for a visa must contact the Ugandan Consulate in their home country and provide the necessary documents. Keep in mind that processing visa requests can take 3 to 5 business days when applying in person at the consulate or online, or two to three weeks if applying by post. Since officials may be processing a large number of other diplomatic and state applications, it is recommended that you apply well before your intended travel dates.

Entering Uganda

When you arrive in Uganda, the immigration officer will decide how long you will be allowed to stay in the country; this time varies between two weeks and three months. You will find the notation handwritten beside the entry stamp on your passport. Be sure to leave the country before this date, or you risk fines and/or a prison term for overstaying your visa. If you wish to extend your trip, visit the Ugandan immigration headquarters on Jinja Road in Kampala. For additional information about entry criteria, contact your tour consultant at AfricanMecca Safaris or check out the Ugandan Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control website at https://immigration.go.ug

Changing Visa Class

The Ugandan consulate issues visas in different classes. In case you need to apply for a visa permit in a different class from the one you already have, you can approach the Ugandan Immigration Directorate to make your request. Note that this application can be made only as long as your existing permit is valid. Certain visa classes, including those on group tourist visas, are not allowed to change their status. You can find information about whether or not your entry permit class is changeable on the visa document itself.

Entry Health Requirements

All visitors must carry a valid yellow fever immunization certificate to be allowed entry into Uganda. When planning your safari trip to Uganda, consider getting booster vaccinations and medicine to protect against the diseases. We recommend you review the CDC Uganda or FIT for Uganda Travel section for further guidance. You should bring all prescription medications from home. Inform your doctor about your plans for visiting Uganda so you can get the right protection for your tour, including malaria protection for before, during, and after your trip.

EAST AFRICA SAFARI BOOKING & TOUR HOLIDAY IDEA UGANDA FOR 2025-2026

We recommend visiting Bwindi for your gorilla safari trek, and combining it with Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, and Kibale (chimpanzee safari) alongside your city tour visits of Kampala and Entebbe.

You may optionally extend out to other wilderness areas such as Mgahinga to track down golden monkeys and gorillas in the same park, Jinja for whitewater rafting on the Nile River, and Semliki, Lake Mburo or Kidepo for an offbeat wildlife tour.

You can end your vacation on the beach at Lake Victoria or even extending out to the exotic spice island of Zanzibar or Lamu, or even Mombasa.
