FISHING TOUR EXPERIENCE IN MAFIA WITH AFRICANMECCA

The reefs around the southern expanse of Mafia Island are rich fishing grounds but after 1995 when the marine park was established, fishing is no longer permitted in an attempt to protect the diversity of marine life and the delicate coral and encourage their proliferation. But on your aquatic travels on Mafia Island, you can fish in the deeper waters outside of the park and there are many locations such as the channels that extend from the Rufiji Delta southwards to Lindi, Njovi and Nyuni Islands, Songo Songo Islands, an arched section of the sea that lies to the east of Mafia Island and also the northern and western zones of the island.

You can go on expeditions on your multi-day fishing trips in Mafia both in the day and night aboard a well-equipped boat fitted with single or double Yamaha engines. These boats carry the necessary safety gear and electronic gadgets, and can accommodate four guests at a time. They also have the outriggers and tower, so they are well-appointed to troll the deeper sections of the ocean. All the light and heavy tackle and all other gear you need for fly and trawl fishing are available on the boat.



The expert skipper onboard will assist you by giving tips, hand-in-hand help, and other training you might need. You can also charter a boat for trips that last you overnight, and you can camp on the destination island with the services of a staff to help you with your mobile needs. While Mafia is ideal for year round angling expeditions, you can plan your tour according to the kind of fish you hope to snag. For instance, if you were to visit in the tuna season months of August through November, you would find bonito, dog-toothed tuna, large yellowfin aside from sharks, rainbow runners, cobia, barracudas, trevally, wahoo and kingfish to name a few.
