CHUMBE ISLAND LODGE IN ZANZIBAR
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Chumbe Island Lodge
Chumbe Island Lodge is an enchanting marine paradise accommodation set up on Chumbe Island Coral Park off the west coast of Zanzibar. An unbelievably beautiful private island, it was as yet completely free of human habitation. Commended by the UN, the island lodge operates on strict eco-friendly principles such as rainwater harvesting, composting toilets, solar panels for energy, filtering gray water and more. Immerse yourself in this coral wonderland on your aquatic vacation in Zanzibar by going on snorkeling expeditions in the clear, high visibility waters of the Indian Ocean. You could also explore the coastal greenery and their unusual denizens by going on nature walks. You will access Chumbe Island by way of a motor boat ride from the south of Stone Town, embarking from Mbweni Ruins. Palm thatch and bamboo poles are used to craft the 7 rustic, traditional bungalows that you will be staying in while on your idyllic beach holiday in Africa. Overlooking the ocean and sited a few steps from the seashore, these deluxe, eco-accommodations allow for complete privacy and tranquility. Gentle ocean breezes lull you to sleep as you float on hammock-styled daybeds on the lower floor or in the bedroom on the loft. While some of the bungalows come with twin singles, the others have a double bed. African motifs painted on the floor along with pastoral coastal furniture add a pleasing ambience to the room. Have delectable wholesome meals in their lounge-cum-dining area to stunning vistas of the pristine white sands bathed by the azure waters of the warm Indian Ocean. Snorkel excursions on your dream trip in Zanzibar will be marked with enchanting viewings of living coral and the many inhabitants of the Chumbe reefs. Sweetlips, parrotfish, clownfish, angelfish and many more play hide and seek with starfish, turtles, seahorses, sea urchins, sea anemones and crabs to name a few. You might also chance to meet a frolicking pod of dolphins as they swim by to get a closer look at you. Note that scuba diving is not permitted at the Chumbe Marine Park. Take the lodge boat to mainland Zanzibar and explore this incredible island metropolis that was once an important port on the spice route. A much-coveted jewel, it has seen much strife in its zenith with many rulers vying for its control. Today, it is a tranquil place with a casual, laid-back ambience. Explore the slim alleyways and their miniature stores where you can shop for mementos of your East African tour. Also sample the fresh seafood, cooked with fragrant spices at a local restaurant. At the center of the island is a conservation area, the Jozani Forest. This primate reserve has been set aside for the proliferation of the red colobus monkeys. You AfricanMecca guide will talk to you about their social behaviors as you watch these delightful creatures moving around calmly in their natural habitat. You must also take the time to visit the famous spice and fruit orchards of Zanzibar. The spices growing on the trees are fascinating to view as are the harvesting methods used. Also taste the unique, organic varieties of fruit that leave a lingering taste long after you return home from your Zanzibar travels. Optionally spend a thrilling afternoon on board a fishing boat as you encounter some of the stalwarts of the ocean during your angling session.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.

Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
