ZANZIBAR SERENA INN IN STONE TOWN
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Zanzibar Serena Inn
For a spectacular blend of Zanzibari luxury and traditional Swahili design during your glamorous trip in Africa’s “Spice Island”, we recommend the premier Zanzibar Serena Inn. The inn, part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World portfolio, is located amidst some of the best Stone Town tour attractions, such as direct views of the Indian Ocean with its romantic dhows, local bazaars, historical fort, Sultan palaces and museum.
With 51 rooms available, you find a fine selection of room sizes. Even though you are staying on the island of Zanzibar, modern conveniences are close at hand, including in-room telephone, Wi-Fi, satellite television, air conditioning, in-room safe, 24-hour room service and minibar. The forty-one Standard Rooms offer king, twin and convertible beds. The six larger Prime Rooms feature private balconies with hammocks for watching the ocean waves wash over the beach, four-poster beds and an elegant Swahili panache that immerses you in local culture.
For the utmost comfort during your boutique vacation in Zanzibar, we recommend one of the inn’s four suites. The two Executive Suites feature sitting room, large balcony with ocean views, outdoor cocktail area and double hammock. The Presidential Suite gives you the royal treatment with a large balcony, reception area and king-size four-poster bed.
For your couple’s romantic holiday in Zanzibar with AfricanMecca, we recommend the Honeymoon Suite with Lamu bed covered in soft cushions, spacious balcony overlooking the blues of the ocean and the swimming pool with a double hammock and chairs, private sitting area and brass lanterns that fill the space with a warm, soft glow at night. Although all of the rooms are wonderful for any size of guest party, we recommend the higher floors if you prefer to have views. Additionally, the direct poolside rooms may have more noise than those set away from the pool.
Zanzibar is a perfect complement to your wilderness East African safari activities as the island offers a charming and peaceful respite after the high pace of exploring the inland bush of Tanzania. You can spend your days wandering narrow alleyways, shopping at local bazaars and relishing the history of the island.
Zanzibar Serena offers a plethora of divine gastronomical delights from Baharia Restaurant, Mdele Coffee Shop, Masahani Bar, Terrace Seafood Restaurant and Pool Terrace. Energize your morning with a hot breakfast, cup of Tanzania coffee and tea alongside succulent fruits and freshly squeezed juices.
Your AfricanMecca guide then skillfully takes you through the labyrinth alleys of Stone Town to see Sultan’s Palace Museum (Beit-el-Sahel), House of Wonders (Beit-al-Ajaib), Forodhani Gardens, Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe), House of Tippu Tip, Livingstone House, Peace Memorial Museum (Beit-el-Amani) and so much more. Along the way, you see the fine details of yesteryear architecture, including immense carved wooden doors, each depicting its affluence of the bygone era.
The afternoon is filled with even more engaging Zanzibar travel activities, so you may wish to return for lunch at Zanzibar Serena Inn or at a local Zanzibari restaurant. Lemongrass, nutmeg, cinnamon trees, exotic fruit trees and other delectable treats await you at a local spice farm. After seeing the roots of the spice industry in Zanzibar, your guide takes you on a refreshing nature walk through Jozani Forest Reserve. The forest gives you a fascinating insight into the ecosystems of the island, and some of the fauna may be a notable part of your adventurous Tanzania vacation.
The forest is home to rare Kirk’s red colobus monkeys and Sykes’s monkeys. Other creatures include small bucks like Aders’ duikers, lizards, frogs, birds, butterflies and turtles and crabs near the shoreline of Chwaka (read more on when is the best time to go to Zanzibar). Before the sun sets, your guide will transfer you back to Zanzibar Serena Hotel for twilight cocktails and dinner on the rooftop terrace.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

I booked my safari holiday through AfricanMecca. They were the most helpful company I have ever dealt with and I work within the travel industry. I had the most amazing time. The holiday went as clockwork with no hitches anywhere.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
