Lying in the turquoise warm Indian Ocean, Mnemba Island Lodge is situated in a little private island off the Matemwe coast of Zanzibar on the northeast region. Roughly triangular in shape, the island of Mnemba hosts the only rustic, up-market lodge with 10 bandas that sleep not more than 20 guests at a given time. You will be welcomed on your dream vacation in Zanzibar on a silvery-white sandy beach, gently washed by the calm, azure waters of the ocean.
Casuarina palms dot the island amidst suni antelopes and rare Aiders' duikers peacefully foraging and traversing in subtlety as you enjoy tranquil siestas on daybeds under palm-thatched canopies. As night falls, you can watch in wonder from a distance as seasonal turtles scramble up from the sea and dig deep holes in the sand to lay their eggs.
The pastoral eco-bandas you will be staying in on your luxury trip in Africa seem to blend into the surroundings with walls of woven palm and roofs of makuti thatch. They have a spacious covered mkeka mat patio that also doubles as a lounge with comfy baraza sofas and a chess table. Woven coconut mats cover the floors while double beds protected with mosquito nets grace the sleeping area. Ensuite bathrooms made with natural stone include twin vanities and a shower area with bead curtains.
Walk out onto the beach from your rooms and you might spot ghost and coconut crabs sidling around on the sands or climbing a tree. You will be treated to the exemplary cuisine served to you on generous wooden platters. Dinners are romantic meals on the sands lighted with lanterns under a velvety African sky, memories you will hold dear long after you go home from your Tanzania boutique beach holiday.
Take the boat to the main island and you can spend your leisurely hours browsing in the tiny dukas or stores in the bazaars of Stone Town, the capital of the Zanzibar Island. Here you can buy intricately carved curios, colorful textiles and delicate bead jewelry, mementos of your authentic travels of East Africa.
You could also stop for a fresh seafood lunch, cooked to perfection at a fine restaurant. Munch on delicately flavored treats, and thereafter, explore the architectural wonders of the island in the company of an expert AfricanMecca guide. Later, you could visit the spice farms and view the organic seasonings growing on the trees. Watch with fascination as they are harvested along with luscious fruits, unusual varieties that you have probably never seen or tasted before like fenesi or durian.
You could also go on a primate viewing tour at the Jozani Forest Reserve, a conservation area where you can watch the red colobus monkeys in their natural habitat. Learn about the diversity of woodland flora even as you view butterflies, birds, millipedes, frogs, lizards and other tiny residents of this beautiful natural world.
Back at Mnemba Island Lodge, you could go scuba diving at its atoll and snorkeling to discover a vibrant land under the waters of the ocean. The coral reefs and their innumerable inhabitants, together make up a delicate marine ecosystem that is utterly breathtaking to observe. You could also add a day of angling to your active-adventure tour of Zanzibar, aboard one of the fishing boats that carry you out to the designated deep sea areas around northern Zanzibar.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
