The drive to the Michamwi Peninsula on the eastern coast of Zanzibar takes you through dense vegetation, and suddenly, you come upon a beautiful Tanzanian oasis beside a stunning white beach. This is the deluxe Kono Kono Beach Resort, a collection of thatched roofed white buildings that are simply amazing for a dream island vacation. The azure panorama of the Indian Ocean stretches in front of you as you make your way to the beach along gravel pathways. Relax under palm leaf parasols set on the sands or sunbathe in the loungers around the swimming pool. You could also go for a soothing massage at the resort’s spa. You will be staying in one of the 24 individual villas during your discerning seaside holiday. Honeymoon couples can opt for the Beach Pavilions that are furnished with large king sized beds. The Sea View Villas also have large beds but are spacious enough to sleep a third AfricanMecca guest. Both these classes offer incredible views of the ocean. Kono Kono also offers Garden View Villas and Family Villas. The former can accommodate three guests while the Family Villas can sleep two adults and two kids. All of the villas have a distinct living room, spacious patios and a plunge pool for relaxing and enjoying the spectacular twilights over the ocean. They are air-conditioned and also include a ceiling fan, LCD television and minibar. Ensuite bathrooms come with a shower, twin basins and an outside stone bath. You will have your meals in the hotel’s main restaurant located on the top of the incline beside an infinity pool. You can order drinks and snacks at the Pool Bar or visit the Beach Bar at lunch for delectable grilled seafood accompanied by drinks. Zanzibar Island with its rich, colorful history and stunning natural beauty has a lot to offer you. From Kono Kono Beach Resort, you can trip out to Mnemba Atoll for snorkeling and scuba diving exploration of the Indian Ocean underwater realms where a serene biome of coral reefs hosts an unbelievable diversity of marine life. Or, visit the deeper sites off this East African coastline where both experienced and novice anglers can try catching gamefish like marlin, swordfish, giant trevally, yellow-fin tuna, sailfish and many more. Another highlight of your time on the island is a tour of the Jozani Forest Reserve. This conservation area is home to the rare red colobus monkey as well as a wide range of flora, insects, amphibians and reptiles. Go shopping for souvenirs at Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enjoy haggling as you examine the colorful Swahili textiles, delicate bead jewelry, spices, and intricately crafted curios. Your experienced AfricanMecca guide will also introduce you to the many ancient buildings that are silent witnesses to the many eras of the island’s history. Also, travel down to the spice plantations where you can view them growing in their natural form. Learn about their special harvesting techniques and their many uses aside from flavoring food. Or, watch with fascination, the many unusual farmed fruits such as bungo, shoki-shoki, fenesi and durian, to name a few.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

I booked my safari holiday through AfricanMecca. They were the most helpful company I have ever dealt with and I work within the travel industry. I had the most amazing time. The holiday went as clockwork with no hitches anywhere.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
