Within the Singita Grumeti Reserves, which comprise 350,000 acres of private wilderness located by the Western Corridor of the Serengeti National Park, there is a luxurious rustic and yesteryear experience waiting on your African tour. Singita Explore Camp Safari provides a unique way of connecting with the soul of Africa on your Tanzania vacations. This authentic tented camp is set up in the more remote areas of the Serengeti on the migratory route of over one million wildebeests and other herd animals that travel across 500 miles of the Serengeti annually as they follow the rains and grass.
It is a unique African safari experience, that of being separated from the African night by only the canvas of your tent like any explorer of the 19th century, and at the same time being cossetted in the luxury of every modern convenience with superbly attentive staff, and mouthwatering meals that combine campfire simplicity with haute cuisine skills.
Echoing the theme of rugged overland transport, the camp has been designed to the highest standards of frill and elegance using utilitarian materials such as leather, rubber and stainless steel to suggest the hardship of "roughing it" close to nature, whilst achieving thorough comfort and convenience as uttered by the phrase by many AfricanMecca safari guests “staying somewhere nice and authentic”. (See where else to stay in Serengeti)
Available only for private use as an intimate experience customized to the needs of parties from two to 12 guests on their African holidays, Singita Explore offers superlative service and discerning comfort, with a full supporting staff, complimentary laundry service, camp host, guides, chef, transport, electricity in the lounge area and Internet and mobile access when in the range of a signal.
Accommodation At Singita Explore Camp
On your Serengeti trip, 6 double or twin bedroom tents are pitched to suit each different group of adventurers. Children are welcome as the agenda and itinerary are customized to each family or party. Although the accommodation is in six individual tents, there are also two mess tents forming lounge and dining room. But the really addictive atmosphere of this timeless experience is to be enjoyed outdoors, around the campfire in the lantern lighted evening. As AfricanMecca guests return to camp from their daily activities and darkness descends like a black curtain with tropical rapidity, the fire flames and crackles hypnotically, luring you, the guest, to relax into the ambience of the African night.Your dinner preparation scents the air with its mouth-watering aroma. You sit in your camp chair, sipping your sundowner and yarning, nibbling away at the fire roasted cashews and peanuts or simply relaxing listening to tales told by your safari guide. This is what Africa travel in the wilderness is all about. There is no light pollution to blur the clarity of the stars, nor any extraneous noise to muffle the sounds of forest and plain. The orchestra tunes up. Insects chirr, screech and chirrup, birds mimic the striking of distant hammers on metal. Lion and hyena roar and howl. The night is simultaneously noisy and restful as the repetitive sounds lull you to a drowsy content.
Safari At Singita Explore Camp
Of course, the main focus of your Africa luxury safari is closeness to the animal life and its ecology, so close that you can smell and almost sense the aroma from animals and plants, especially at night when it feels as if you are sleeping in proximity to them with the sounds resonating and echoing from the plains. You can walk amongst them, cycle or even ride horseback if you are an experienced equestrian when combining your stay at Sasakwa or Faru Faru. You can take morning, evening or even day-long game drives in your special 4x4 transport, and immerse yourself totally in the Africa experience. You can trail out to for secretive nocturnal creatures on a spot-lighted night drive. Or you can take a day out to enjoy the contrasting sophistication of the latter permanent lodges at Singita Grumeti Reserves, with its beautiful sumptuous décor, infinity pool and the opportunity to watch wildlife at the waterhole from the safety and comfort of the overlooking deck. It might even be possible to take a balloon flight over the heads of the migrating herds to appreciate the real grandeur of the spectacle.
Alternative to that, you can watch the 360 degree panorama from the top of Koria Hill. Your Serengeti tours will illustrate the aptness of the name, from Siringit, the Maasai word meaning "Land that stretches forever". There you can still see herds of buffalo, zebra, impala, eland, oribi and smaller mammals like the hyrax, pangolin and porcupine. You may be lucky enough to spot a colobus monkey, dramatic in black and white, or the blur of a fast-moving vervet monkey as it races through the open edges of the forest.
For the avid twitcher, or bird-watcher, there are hundreds of species from the larger black-headed heron, crowned crane, vulture and eagle to the smaller, colorful sunbird, stunning roller, canary and purple grenadier. You will never forget your stay at the Singita Explore Camp, surely one of the most life-changing and memorable of the Serengeti trips with AfricanMecca (Read more on best times to visit Serengeti).
Dining At Singita Explore Camp
This Tanzania tours offer new culinary delights, especially under canvas, where the skills of cooking on the grill and campfire create rich and unfamiliar flavors that seem to appeal to some primitive instinct. Cast iron tripod-based pots are left to simmer for hours over a slow fire to produce the traditional thick stews. Bread is baked over the coals to be eaten as starters, dipped in hot flavorful pepper and garlic sauce. Just as in barbecue cooking, there is interaction between cook and foodie as meat is brought to exactly the right stage of appetizing readiness. On this type of a culinary Tanzania safari with AfricanMecca, food preparation is an art, more like theatre than simple cuisine. The chef demonstrates his or her skill in cooking eggs, meat, fish and even a full English breakfast under the same conditions as primitive man. Braised, fried, roasted or toasted and served with fresh salads, cheese and a good wine, spiced with the clear fragrance of the open air, the meals are easily amongst the best you have tasted.
In the morning, coffee and tea is brewed on fire while you wait for your breakfast, and for high tea there are assortments of tempting sweet cakes, all freshly baked. All meals are included in the tariff. Lunch and dinner are served with wine, fresh juices, and warm beverages.
