GUIDE ON SERENGETI WOODLANDS CAMP IN TANZANIA

No place on Earth says ‘authentic safari’ like East Africa, and Serengeti National Park is among the most desirable wilderness destinations for AfricanMecca guests. Covering a large area of pristine wilderness, the park is only part of the broader ecosystem that supports an abundance of wildlife species. The subtle energy of Serengeti intensifies as over one million wildebeests and thousands of zebras follow an infinite route that takes the massive herds to the best grazing and water.
From December to March, the migration is in the southern section of the park, where AfricanMecca guests watch the birth of new calves as they take their first steps. Over a three-week period, the wildebeests birth up to 8,000 calves each day on the southern plains of Serengeti — and this is a ‘must see’ for a nature vacation. For the utmost privacy and immersion in the experience, we recommend Serengeti Woodlands Camp in the Ndutu southern region, a deluxe tented accommodation set away from the main area where most camps operate.
Accommodation At Serengeti Woodlands Camp
Serengeti Woodlands Camp offers unparalleled privacy in Ndutu area of Serengeti, creating an intimate safari holiday experience for AfricanMecca guests. Choose from a total of 12 tents including large two-bedroom tents for your family safari trip, all of which provide the comforts that you need while in the bush country of Tanzania.Wrought iron headboards, vintage-style writing desks, old world charm lamps and nightstands, and other decorative elements surround you, with a yesteryear ambiance that would make any explorer feel right at home. The ensuite bathroom offers running water for the marble vanity with wash basin, an elevated shower with running hot water, and an enclosed water closet with flush toilet. The dressing area allows you to prepare for your day without feeling cramped.
Teak shower flooring warms up the space, while the rugged carpet in the main tent area add a stable touch of elegance. Outdoors you’ll find a shaded verandah with seating and a small wood table for your cocktails in the evening and tea or coffee in the morning. Surrounded by trees and tall grasses, you’ll feel embraced by nature. Rounding out the features of your guest tent are power strips for charging electronics, cozy bathrobes, 24-hour electricity, and radios for communicating with camp staff as needed. Laundry service is available for a supplemental fee.
Safari At Serengeti Woodlands Camp
The centerpiece of your activity time in Serengeti are the game tours that allow you to get close to the action, from the birthing of wildebeest calves to the ongoing struggle for survival between herbivores and carnivores. Your day may include watching a lion hunt unfold or holding your breath as a newborn wildebeest takes its first step while predators await, panting and hungry, watching for any sign of weakness.Game drives are available in the morning and afternoon or on full days, and each time of day exposes you to unique experiences. In the morning, you may come across a lion kill being scavenged by hyenas, a family of elephants making their way to a watering hole, or a wildebeest mother nursing her newborn. Evenings are the time when prey animals come out of hiding to graze and nocturnal species reveal themselves from the shadows of their daytime hiding places. Everywhere you look in Serengeti, a new sight tells an exciting, one-of-a-kind story.
Dining At Serengeti Woodlands Camp
Outback travel in Tanzania might be the last place that you expect to find quality cuisine, so the delicious dishes created by the camp chef are a lovely surprise. The meals feature a combination of African and international flavors and are served in the central tent. Picnic lunches can be arranged for your game drives.Next to the dining area is a comfortable lounge with a fully-stocked bar, where you can order cocktails, wine, beer, and spirits. The chef can accommodate special dietary requirements like gluten-free, vegan, and low carb with advance arrangements, so let your AfricanMecca representative know if you have any dietary restrictions.

What We Like About Serengeti Woodlands Camp
- Serengeti Woodlands Camp is a mid-range accommodation that offers a balance of quality and quantity.
- The camp sits in an area that’s away from the high concentrations of camps in the southern Serengeti, offering an ideal level of privacy in the bush.
- The staff provides professional, warm, and friendly service to guests.
- Serengeti Woodlands Camp has a two-bedroom tent for families (two adults and one or two children) or small groups.
- Guests enjoy convenient access to prime viewing points in the southern Serengeti - Ndutu area.
Things To Note When Staying At Serengeti Woodlands Camp
- Serengeti Woodlands Camp is seasonal and only operates from December through May to coincide with the presence of the wildebeest calving season.
- With only 12 guest tents and limited operation months, Serengeti Woodlands Camp may fill quickly during peak season — we recommend booking this property 12 to 18 months in advance.
- This is not an upscale camp — it caters to mid-range guests and may not suit the needs of those looking for a luxury or budget option in southern Serengeti. Extra charges apply for laundry and drinks.
- Primary game driving activities only due to the location — may not be ideal for guests who want a variety of activities for their bush travel e.g. bush walk, cultural tours, family - children catered activities.
- The camp has few facilities and may not meet the desires of guests who want a swimming pool, fitness area, massage services, and other facilities.
