Mara Mara Tented Lodge is a deluxe safari accommodation for guests who wish to visit northern Serengeti. The highlight of any visit to this ecosystem in Tanzania is witnessing the migration first-hand, and the Mara River crossing is amongst the most memorable tour experience. Over 1.5 million wildebeests and thousands of zebras traverse the area, passing elephants, giraffes, rhinos, hippos, topis, buffaloes, warthogs, and other grazers that are resident to the area. Camouflaged in the grasses are the area’s predators, such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas, to name a few.
Accommodation At Mara Mara Tented Lodge
Mara Mara Tented Lodge offers 16 guest tents that are divided into two sub-camps. The north side of the camp has six standard tents and three family tents, while the south side has six standard tents and one family tent. In addition to the guest tents, each side of the camp has a main tent with restaurant, lounge, viewing deck, and swimming pool. The tents measure 80 square meters and feature a sleeping area and ensuite bathroom with an indoor bath and an outdoor shower, as well as a sun deck with views of the Serengeti park plains.
For parents who are traveling with children, the family configurations are comprised of two interconnected tents. This gives parents with young families on safari a peace of mind knowing that their children are close to them. Satellite telephone and WiFi are available, and power is provided via solar energy. Guests can charge their devices in their tents.
Safari At Mara Mara Tented Lodge
Morning and afternoon game drives are the primary tour activities at Mara Mara Tented Lodge. The guides take you to a prime viewing location for the Mara River crossing, as well as other locations where you can see resident species. In between the game drives, spend a few hours relaxing before lunch, then take a quick siesta before heading out into the bush once again, or you can opt for full day game drives. Nature has a different feel in the late afternoon and early evenings, as this is the time when nocturnal species emerge from their hiding places. The interactions between predator and prey can also be subtly different.
Should you have an extra days your action-packed vacation, we highly recommend an early morning hot air balloon ride above the plains of Serengeti National Park. The experience stands in stark contrast with a bird’s eye view to the high-energy of the river crossing and game drives on land. An aerial safari is an excellent way to end your wondrous trip to Tanzania’s famed Serengeti ecosystem.
Dining At Mara Mara Tented Lodge
Meals at Mara Mara Tented Lodge are served in the main tents on both sides of the camp. For breakfast, guests have the option of eating in the bush during the morning game drive or back at camp where the chef will have prepared a buffet of warm entrees, fresh fruit, and other dishes. We can also arrange a private breakfast on the camp property for couples who desire a romantic safari holiday or honeymoon experience while gazing across the vast plains of Serengeti. Lunch is served at camp or as a picnic in the bush, and dinner is served after sundowners in the main mess tents of the camp.

What We Like About Mara Mara Tented Lodge
- Mara Mara Tented Lodge is a mid-range accommodation that offers a good balance between quality and quantity. The staff go to extended lengths to serve you well at all times.
- Natural materials used to built the lodge. The guest tents are large and spacious, and the wooden decks are incredible places to lounge and watch the passing wildlife.
- WiFi and in-tent charging are available in all guest rooms. All rooms have an indoor bathtub and an outdoor shower.
- The camp is set up in an amazing location with breathtaking views.
- Mara Mara Tented Lodge offers four family units, and ideal camp for multi-generational families traveling together.
Things To Note When Staying At Mara Mara Tented Lodge
- The location is not riverside, and requires driving to the wildebeest crossing points of the Mara River.
- Food quality is very good; though, some guests may prefer extended menu items. This can be requested with the chef.
- The infinity pool is not heated and may be too cold for swimming on cloudy, overcast days. There are two pools; though, if you are only there for two nights stay, you may not end up using it to so as to maximize your game viewing time. Plan your time around if you want to use the pool.
- Prices are on the lower end of deluxe camps in northern Serengeti.
- It has a subtle lodge feel to it though not ideal for guests looking for a traditional bush camp experience.
