Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is one of the most cherished protected areas in the world, and one of the best ways to discover the natural beauty of this premier travel destination is by following the wildebeest migration. Imagine being in the presence of a family of elephants slowly lumbering across the savannah plains, when the ground begins to tremble under the weight of over 1.5 million wildebeests thundering across the landscape.
From a distance, all you see is a moving mass of ruddy brownish grey interspersed with the distinctive markings of thousands of zebras. Breathtaking only begins to describe the moment. Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp is a mid-range, tented safari accommodation that follows the Great Migration in the southern and northern Serengeti. The variable location of the camp offers our guests the best opportunities for wildlife viewing during the Great Migration.
Accommodation At Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp
The 12 full-canvas guest tents are set up in the far northern section of the Serengeti from June through October, which coincides with the most well-known and heart-pounding event of the migration: the crossing of the Mara River. During this spectacular event, throngs of wildebeests frantically stumble and bounce down a steep embankment to reach the water’s edge. For a moment, each pauses to consider the gauntlet that lies ahead — stealth, hungry crocodiles hidden just below the surface. Turning back is not an option, as the migration is necessary to reach prime grazing grounds. One by one, the wildebeests leap into the water, eyes wide, and swim as fast as possible. The crocodiles erupt to the surface and grab the weakest and smallest of the herd.
This is just a sample of the life-or-death struggle that you witness at Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp in northern Tanzania, and the emotions that you experience will create an unforgettable tour that few experience in their lifetimes. The camp relocates to the southern Serengeti from December through March, where you see another facet of the migration. The camp does not operate in April and May.
The best part of Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp is that you are close to the action with all the comforts of home close at hand. Each tent measures 48 square meters (12 X 4m), and you can choose from double, twin, single, triple, and quad configurations. A honeymoon tent is also available for couples who seek an affordable, remote, and romantic holiday escape in Tanzania.
The inter-connected quad tent is perfect for wildlife family vacations to give your little ones a unique safari experience in Serengeti Park. Each tent features a sleeping area with a writing desk, chair, nightstands, storage chest, luggage racks, and wardrobe. The beds are covered with mosquito netting, and you will savor each night of rest as you snuggle into the high-quality cotton sheets and duvet and rest your head on soft double pillows. Special touches include robes, slippers, natural bath products, and extra blankets.
The ensuite bathroom has a vanity, mirror, ceramic basin, safari bucket shower, flush toilet, clothes rack, and linens. Solar and generator power reach both the guest tents and the mess tent. The door and windows of the tent unzip to allow fresh breezes to cool the interior. WiFi is available at the camp, although you may wish to completely disconnect from the modern world and, instead, connect with the beauty of Tanzania for the most immersive travel experience.
Safari At Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp
In the Tanzanian outback, you come across many resident and migratory species that make Serengeti National Park a prime travel destination (best time to go). Leopards, lions, cheetahs, and other predators rest in camouflage grasses, awaiting the opportunity to capture morning prey. Hippos, giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, wildebeests, zebras, and other grazers dot the landscape — and you may even see rare African wild dogs and hyenas! In the afternoon, take a guided walk or visit a local village when you are staying in the south of the Serengeti. An afternoon game drive reveals nocturnal species, and you’ll end the adventure with sunset cocktails. If your schedule and activity budget allows you to enhance your bush trip, we recommend a hot air balloon safari over the plains of Serengeti Park.
Dining At Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp
Start each day with a lovely cup of coffee or tea on your private patio before heading out for a morning game drive. You can end your game drive with a bush picnic or return to camp for a hot meal. Spend the remainder of the morning relaxing, then enjoy a tasty lunch. After your evening game drive, return to camp for dinner and cocktails by the fire.Related Pages

Things To Note When Staying At Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp
- The traditional model of the camp offers few options for facilities and activities (e.g. spa, bush pool).
- The unpretentious, no-frills safari experience may not suit guests who prefer boutique or luxury bush camping.
- Wildlife traverses through the campsite, so families with young children need to be attentive at all times.
- Drinks cost extra and hosted dining is not offered here (i.e. guests dining at a single long table with the camp manager); all guests dine at individual tables.
- Tents don’t have in-room charging ports so guests must charge phones and batteries in the main area.
