GUIDE ON SERENGETI PIONEER CAMP (ELEWANA) IN TANZANIA
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Serengeti Pioneer Camp
Serengeti Pioneer Camp is an addition to a collection of Elewana lodges, camps and hotels located in East Africa. This camp specifically is located within the Moru Kopjes area in the southern end of the central sector of the Serengeti in Tanzania. Situated close to the breeding plains of the wildebeest, near the start of their dramatic yearly mass migration, it is ideally placed to observe this world famous event. Over a million wildebeest set off every year on a year round trip following the rains for succulent grazing attended by several hundreds of thousands of gazelle, zebra and other hooved animals, together with thousands more predators who feed off the young, the stragglers and the weak. These include hump-backed, heavy-jawed hyena and smaller, slimmer jackals as well as cheetahs, lion and many other flesh and carrion eaters. The migration is a very popular focal point for holidays with AfricanMecca. The Moru Kopjes are bastions of eroded ancient granite that stand out from the plain, having their own individual ecology with a rich flora providing food and shelter for many unusual birds, insects, lizards and mammals both large and small. Serengeti Pioneer Camp sits jauntily on and around a kopje, which affords spectacular views of the plains below while offering recognition to the architect and designers to produce a fantastic camp complex reminiscent of bygone days of colonial rule and the conventions of Victorian gentleman travelers and explorers. Many of the design features are based on authentic reproductions of the equipment used on safari to Africa by wilderness pioneers in the early 1930s. Nevertheless, it fits in seamlessly with the landscape disturbing it as little as it does the local ecology, which it is designed to protect. The surrounding landscape, shaped by rain and migrants, is incredibly varied and beautiful. For this reason alone, a Serengeti Pioneer Camp safari offers one of the best of all choices for a holiday to Tanzania since it easily accesses the Serengeti plains, Lake Magadi and the Moru Kopjes, and is plentifully provided with year round resident game to view.
Accommodation At Serengeti Pioneer Camp
There are ten impressively luxurious tents around the base of the Kopje and a lounge, bar and dining room reached by a rustic timber ramp (see where else to stay in Serengeti). There is also a swimming pool. All the tents boast authentic Edwardian furnishings, trunks, traveling desks with writing material, wooden sideboards, safari chairs and old-fashioned copper-headed showers together with more modern facilities including flushing toilets, vanity wash basins, water heated by solar panels and solidly comfortable twin or double beds with mosquito nets. Canvas floors are complemented with natural tone throw mats, and there are comfortable arm chairs facing the wild bush. A fanciful touch is the pith helmet and cane left carelessly atop a traveling trunk tempting you to take on the role of the Edwardian traveler in every respect. On a more practical note, there is an old-fashioned butler, laundry service, game spotting and star-gazing telescopes together with modern facilities such as hairdryers available on request, central charging bays, digital safes and cash-card facilities. Serengeti Pioneer Camp offers stylish luxury and utmost comfort while appealing to the AfricanMecca adventurer in every secret heart. The furniture is opulent and highly cultured while the design takes further steps into fantasy with an authentic canvas tents perched high on crumbling rock faces, with wooden decked lounges looking out over breathtaking scenery of the Serengeti National Park.Safari At Serengeti Pioneer Camp
Dubbed as the 8th wonder of the world, the annual migration of over a million wildebeests supplemented with thousands of zebras, circumambulating around the Serengeti in search of better plains, has been documented in many films. Photographs will not do justice to the magnificence of the migration. As the Serengeti Pioneer Camp is in the path of the migration, you will experience and see for yourself the journey of the wildebeest and the fight for survival between prey and predator. Dedicated safari guides will join you on a custom-built safari vehicle as they track and try to follow the path of the migration and resident wildlife from hoofed herbivores to stalking canines. The exciting game drives of your Tanzania safari traditionally take place in the dawn before breakfast or at mid-afternoon to early evening, when the animals are just about to settle for the night. The radio links among safari vehicles allow shared tracking communication between the guides, thus maximize your wildlife viewing experience in Serengeti. You can also personalize your game drives and go on a day-long adventure. The staff will prepare your meals in a picnic basket, and you can enjoy your uninterrupted Serengeti trip and take pleasure in being part of the natural phenomena that cannot be found anywhere else. You will be part of the journey of a million wildebeest as they go through the Serengeti plains, traveling as a group and fighting hunger, thirst and predation. The sheer number of the animals as well as the presence of the big five will surely be an overwhelming albeit memorable experience for AfricanMecca guests. Taking your Serengeti tour and being part of an ancient tradition of a million wildebeest is an experience that you will never forget. Following the natural instinct of mating and traveling to find the best grazing grounds, the wildebeest has given mankind an unparalleled natural show that should be experienced rather than just seen. At Serengeti Pioneer Camp, you will be assured of luxurious accommodations, personalized service, wonderful meals, and excellent guided safaris during special Africa holiday, all in the breath-taking backdrop of the Serengeti plains.Dining At Serengeti Pioneer Camp

Breakfast can also be taken by the swimming pool or even during your early morning game drive. Dinner can be taken en suite, in the main dining tent or around the campfire. Other options include bush dinners at designated dining spots complete with well-stocked bush bars. Your Serengeti activities are infinitely flexible. You may take a guided stroll with a naturalist after breakfast in and around the camp radius or a siesta snooze before high tea. Later AfricanMecca guests can enjoy sundowner cocktails around the campfire or in the bush at the end of your evening game drive; thereafter, returning for a formal dinner with silver service beneath sparking stars. All meals provide a choice of styles and dishes, both hot and cold; from full English breakfasts to soups, stews, salads and roasts and from breakfast cereals, eggs and waffles to cold platters and sundowner snacks. AfricanMecca's professionalism and care understands that what distinguishes Africa is its authenticity, the land, people and wildlife who do not share our world of fashion and fanfare that distinguish so many travel companies today.
