Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Selous Serena Camp
For your safari in Africa, the Selous Serena Camp gives you a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see the continent’s true natural beauty. The camp is located in southeast Tanzania and gives you access to the Nyerere National Park (Selous), the largest game reserve in Africa. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the reserve features savannah, lakes and deltas and is almost four times the size of Serengeti. With few discerning visitors each year, Nyerere Park (Selous) truly does give you the isolated experience of being amidst the animals in the wilds of Africa. The camp was formerly branded as Selous Luxury Camp, and now features traditional canvas tents adorned with sophisticated modern touches, yet in a wilderness setting. The camp offers family-friendly activities, as well as special extra services for honeymooners on their African safari e.g. breakfast in bed with imported wine to a private lunch or dinner for two. Activities at the camp include game drives, boating safaris, walking safaris, cultural visits with ethnic displays. AfricanMecca guests can spend their evenings looking across the landscape listening to the soft sounds of wildlife, relax peacefully with a glass of cognac while searching for constellations in the night sky or join other guests in the lounge for delightful conversation and board games. As you plan your travel, the time of year will influence the wildlife experiences during your game viewing activities. From June through October, the climate is dry and warm, and this is the time that you are most likely to see large concentrations of wildlife. From November through May, the weather is hotter and more humid, and there is a chance of short rains in November and December and long ones in April and May. The grasses are much greener, flowers are thriving and trees are developing delicate fresh shoots. Birds are abundant, and this time of year coincides with the birthing season of many species.

Selous Serena Camp offers special services for newlyweds, such fruit and flowers in the tent and intimate dinners in the dining area or on your private deck. In the morning, breakfast can be requested to be served in bed or in the bush. A couple’s massage in your tent is an excellent way to unwind after the day's activities.Safari At Selous Serena Camp
With over 21,000 square miles (55,000 sq km) of remote, pristine land to explore, you will want to partake of all of the game viewing activities that are available during your trip to Selous. You may choose from game drives, boat safaris and walking safaris, and your guide customizes your activities to meet your needs while giving you the best opportunities to see the landscape and animals. You may see lion, leopard, buffalo, hippo, crocodile and many others, and the area is home to the largest concentration of elephants in the world. For your tour of Africa, you may choose from morning or afternoon activities, and game drives are the most popular choice for seeing larger concentrations of animals and covering more ground. Most guests enjoy two activities per day. Boating safaris give you a unique aquatic perspective of Africa's natural beauty, and the walking safaris allow you to see the smaller denizens and plant life of the area. Night drives are not allowed in the reserve, and all guests must return to the camp by 6.30-7:00 p.m. For your Tanzania safari game drive, you travel in an open 4x4 safari vehicle with a knowledgeable and skilled guide who has the expertise to take you to vantage points where you have the greatest opportunities to see the wildlife. Your guide travels in relation to the destination and wildlife experiences and describes animal behavior, habitats, species and much more. Based on professional discretion, your guide may also use radio communication with preferred guides in other safari vehicles as an optional sharing medium to gather information, such as last sightings, footprints and sounds, to maximize your game viewing opportunities. Refreshments are available in your safari vehicle for your comfort and enjoyment during your game drive. Game drives are offered in the morning and afternoon, and you may enjoy sunset cocktails in the bush during your afternoon game drive. Enjoy a boating safari along the Rufiji River during your tour of Tanzania with AfricanMecca. Bird lovers enjoy boating safaris due to the vast number of water bird species found in the river and along the shore. You travel in the comfort of a sturdy metal boat with an outboard motor while protected from the heat of the sun under a canopy. Travel with a skilled and knowledgeable boat guide who has an intimate knowledge of the network of waterways. Using professional judgment and years of experience, your boatman navigates through the water watching for hippo and crocodile for your viewing pleasure, but also avoiding these semi-aquatic animals at a close distance for your safety. An interpretative walking safari gives you a view of the animals and flora that you may miss during your game drive (read more on best time to visit the Selous wilderness in Tanzania). Escorted by a walking guide and an armed guard, you walk at a leisurely pace early in the morning. Walking safaris begin at 6.30 a.m. before the sun heats the day. Although walking safaris are designed to let you see the tiny creatures of the reserve, elephants, buffaloes, myriad of antelopes, other herbivores and predators have been sighted as passing or stationary game. Your escorted walker is a knowledgeable guide who explains the area's ecology, as well as tracking techniques, medicinal uses of the flora, bird species and much more.Dining At Selous Serena Camp

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
We had an absolutely unforgettable time. Both our guides were outstanding with so much knowledge. At Nyerere National Park (Selous), we found a group of wild dogs cooling off near a pool of water. The safari was everything we had hoped for.
Gunnar and Liz Kristiansen - Ontario, Canada
I booked my safari holiday through AfricanMecca. They were the most helpful company I have ever dealt with and I work within the travel industry. I had the most amazing time. The holiday went as clockwork with no hitches anywhere.
Shelley Roberts - Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom
AfricanMecca's professionalism and care understands that what distinguishes Africa is its authenticity, the land, people and wildlife who do not share our world of fashion and fanfare that distinguish so many travel companies today.
