This locale is also where the city’s Old Fort Prison is sited. Though, you might want to plan your visit during the weekdays and Saturdays since it is closed on Sundays. Next, make your way to the inner section of Johannesburg where you can find out about the gold rush of 1886 that led to the birth of the town. On the east of the city is the Maboneng Precinct, which is an impressive showcase of the development of the urban sections of Johannesburg. You will be getting back to your hotel through the upscale suburb of Houghton that is also a shopping district.

2. Journey of Freedom Tour
Experience the journey of South Africa from a dark time of apartheid to democracy with tours of the Hector Pieterson Museum, Mandela House, Regina Mundi Church and the Apartheid Museum.
The Journey to Freedom tour traces the long and arduous struggle that South Africa went through to achieve democracy, a truly remarkable journey to which many heroes contributed everything they had, including their lives. Your tour begins at the Hector Pieterson Museum where you will learn about the events that led up to the terrible riots. Next, you will visit the Mandela House where you could choose to explore its museum. The Regina Mundi Church is the next notable stop where you can look around the underground site where meetings were held by the banned political groups in secrecy. The walls of the chamber still resound with the voices of the people committed to bringing about change. You will feel their intense dedication and perhaps, imagine the determination they felt. After lunch at a local restaurant at Soweto (paid directly), you will continue your tour to the Apartheid Museum. By way of various multimedia channels that include documentary clips, sound, text and memories related by people present at the time, you will understand what it was like in the gloomy times when only the whites were given privileges. Through this remarkable voyage of courage and sadness, you will arrive at the present time when a new, free South Africa has emerged.
Tour Duration: Full day
Departure Time: 0830 hours (available only on Tue, Thu & Sat)
Minimum: 2 adults
3. Soweto Tour
Experience the spirit of the freedom struggle of South Africa with a tour of the Hector Pieterson Museum, Mandela House, Regina Mundi Church and Soccer City, venue of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final.
The full form of SOWETO is South Western Township where more than two million South Africans reside. The locality is somewhat crowded and can be disorganized at times but as you tour it, you will be struck by the strong, underlying bond that the people have with one another. A bond that often seems to be missing in the northern suburban areas that are inhabited by the upper-class elites of Johannesburg. A visit to the Hector Pieterson Museum will give you an insight into the unfortunate unrest that caused his death. Go on to explore Mandela House, a museum dedicated to this world famous personality before you stop at the Regina Mundi Church. The expert guide accompanying you will talk to you about how outlawed political groups chose this venue to hold their covert meetings at a subterranean level. Soweto is also the location of the largest sports stadium in Africa where the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final event took place. In a way, this town seems to compress the spirit of the freedom from apartheid struggle in an established location that forms the basis of everything that is South Africa.
Tour Duration: Half day
Departure Time: 1245 hours
Minimum: 2 adults

You will also visit the Lesedi Cultural Village where you will be introduced to the cultures of the Zulu, Pedi, Xhosa, Sotho and Ndebele tribes. Immerse yourself in their welcoming warmth and understand their fascinating ways of living. View their homes built in ancient traditional styles and experience the harmony of their lives. Walk in the steps of the deep-rooted tribal communities of South Africa and learn of their interactions by way of various media in different languages and images. Complete your tour with a traditional meal cooked African-style, an apt finale to a voyage of discovery and introduction to whole new, little-known, in-depth details of the history of man..

As you go on the Cullinan Diamond Tour, you will be introduced to the birthplace of the largest gem grade diamond to be found in the world, the Cullinan Premier Mine. This diamond that weighed an enormous 3106 carats in its uncut state was later divided into 98 separate gems. Two of them are known to be the Great and Lesser Stars of Africa, both of which grace the crown jewels of the UK. The Cullinan Mine was established in 1902 and is today the oldest mine in the world. It is also the third richest diamond mine in South Africa. Its birth gave rise to the small Victorian-themed village of Cullinan. Begin your tour by viewing a 15-minute video clip and then, the carefully guarded areas of the mine where diamonds are extracted. You can also visit a cavernous open cast mine that has been carved out of Kimberlite rock. 6. Liliesleaf Tour – A Place of Liberation
Experience the first-hand accounts of the history of South Africa and the political and social struggles it has gone through before democracy was finally instituted. The Liliesleaf Tour lets you explore the “Place of Liberation” as it is called in historic Rivonia.
Liliesleaf is one of the foremost museums of Johannesburg. It is established in the structure that once housed the Spear of the Nation or Umkhonto we Sizwe, the military section of the ANC and the Congress Alliance. Located in the residential part of Rivonia, the museum’s collection of artifacts and other displays provide you with in-depth and interactive knowledge of the incredible history of South Africa and its awe-inspiring journey of political and social struggles. Learn about the occurrences behind the shameful attack on Rivonia farm as told by the people present and involved in the event. The museum also showcases the well-known people that were instrumental in instituting democracy in the country. Over time, some additional sections have been blended into the original building, and today, it inspires visitors to rethink their preconceived and uncomfortable notions on politics and morality. These issues were an integral part of the social structure that included apartheid as a way of life. And, perhaps, in some ways still exist in the background of our world.
