Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
Built out of naturally occurring materials, tucked away in the foothills of the majestic Mount Karisimbi is the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. This deluxe vacation base offers easy gorilla trekking access to the Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda owing to its strategic location at Kinigi. You are likely to spend about 15 minutes driving to the main gate of the reserve from the accommodation. Since the lodge operates in conjunction with the communities sited close by, the earnings from the park help in their upliftment also. The main lobby includes comfortable, expansive seating spaces and a bar where you can order cooling drinks. Also, sip on them outdoors in front of the roaring fire each evening as you relive the delightful moments of your gorilla safari tour at Volcanoes. You can also enjoy the stunning panoramas of the lush Rwandan landscape around you with the views of the volcanic mountain that looms loftily in the background. The 30 rooms offered by the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge are located in individual chalets set among well-landscaped gardens with paved walkways. The chalets are adorned with local stone detailing and have thatch for the roofs. Their decor is simple, but with distinct touches of Rwandan art, that adds warmth. You can choose from rooms with a king sized bed or twin beds. Each of the rooms has area rugs and a quaint wickerwork seating arrangement in front of a fire that is lit each evening. Make use of the tea and coffee making equipment along with the umbrellas and hot water bottles. The ensuite bathroom includes a hair dryer and a modest shower area for the use of touring guests. You can charge your electronics in the room while you relax on the patio outside and revel in the fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. The lodge has an in-house restaurant that has thatched ceiling and whimsical Rwandan art décor on the walls. You can also take your meals on the terrace outside while enjoying the montane views. All meals are laid out on the buffet and cooked with fresh ingredients sourced from the farms of the communities around the lodge. Your travel through the picturesque mountains of the Volcanoes Park begins in the morning at the start of the trail you will follow that day. After your gorilla family is assigned, your group of eight guests can begin their hike after a short briefing about the marvelous, unique creatures you are about to see and the protocols to follow around them. Depending on the family of gorillas assigned to you, it could take you from one to four hours to find them. The mountain gorillas are used to the presence of humans, and you can subtly approach them without scaring them or them getting aggressive. You can also opt to have a porter accompanying you to carry supplies and photographic equipment. Among the distinct trails that run through the park, you can also choose the ones that take you to the bamboo forests, the habitat of the famous golden monkeys. Work with the guide assigned to you by AfricanMecca Safaris to trek to the diverse ecology. Each of the trails takes a unique journey to the varied wonders of the forest where around 178 species of birds fill the air with their melody and dazzling hues. You must also take the time to visit the tomb of the famous personality, Dian Fossey whose love for the gorillas is legendary. Complete your primate trip in Rwanda on a high note by taking part in the cultural music and dance show of the Intore dancers back at the lodge in the evening.
