Gishwati Lodge is currently being commissioned and awaiting to be built.
Set to open in the next year or so, Gishwati Lodge will offer a treasured vacationing retreat in the pristine environs of the as-yet unexplored Gishwati-Mukura National Park. Newly gazetted in 2016, the park offers you the opportunity to view the extremely rare eastern chimpanzees of which less than 20 were left in these forests. You can also look out for other rare primates here such as the golden monkey, blue monkey, and L'Hoest monkey.Spend time in the newly forested areas where you can come across red river hogs, duikers and servals along with a variety of indigenous flora. Sister to the Bisate Lodge in Volcanoes National Park, Gishwati Lodge will have just six rustic cottages for like-minded eco-sensitive guest stays. Together the lodge can accommodate up to 12 guests at a time. Proceeds that the lodge will earn from your visit will go towards the development of the park and the setting up of the new corridor.
In the coming years, as the passage connecting the wildernesses of Gishwati-Mukura to the Nyungwe National Park comes alive with flora and fauna, you might be lucky to view more of the fauna of the Nyungwe forests that have migrated to the renewed reserve in search of greener pastures. You will be able to go on chimpanzee trekking or explore the distinct trails to discover the fruits of conservation efforts. Gishwati-Mukura National Park is a beautiful woodland outback to visit all the year round with your family and friends.
Although chimpanzee trekking is allowed only for guests who are above 15 years, younger children are also welcome to bush holiday in the forests for a valuable lesson in the importance of preserving our natural resources for generations to come. Birdwatchers staying at Gishwati Lodge can enjoy viewing some rare species here such as the grey-crowned crane and martial eagle. Plans are also underway to create a Canopy Walk in the reserve much like the one in the Nyungwe Park. EAST AFRICA SAFARI BOOKING TRIP IDEA FOR GISHWATI LODGE IN GISHWATI-MUKURA RWANDA
When staying at Gishwati Lodge in Rwanda, we recommend combining it with a gorilla and primate safari to Volcanoes (Parc National de Volcans), Nyungwe and a city tour of Kigali. You may optionally extend out to other wilderness areas of Akagera ending with a beach vacation at Lake Kivu or even extending out to the exotic spice island of Zanzibar or Lamu, or even Mombasa.
