SCUBA DIVING TOUR EXPERIENCE IN WATAMU WITH AFRICANMECCA
As a protected area, Watamu Marine Park is the site of pristine coral reefs that are constantly active with aquatic species, thanks in part to the efforts of the park authorities (Kenya Wildlife Service) to protect the reef from anchor damage and other detrimental effects. At low tide, the reef is exposed, giving you the rare opportunity to see the coral much more easily, and when the tides come in, the depth of the water offers twenty primary dive sites that are appropriate for all levels of divers, from beginner to experienced. Most of the sites are within a 30-minute boat ride and have depths that range from 30 to almost 100 feet.
You may choose to dive only once during the day or AfricanMecca Safaris can also arrange half-day double dives and even night dives in the lagoon. One of the more advanced sites is known as “The Canyon” and features a soft coral archway, deep drops and coral gardens, and the site is named after the canyon-like section where you swim along a sandy bottom with coral walls on either side observing turtles, varied fishes and the occasional white tip reef sharks. Should you have the opportunity, AfricanMecca recommends that you explore beyond the coral reef to find dolphin, manta ray and whale shark.
