BEST TIME TO VISIT LAMU DURING YOUR COASTAL TRAVELS IN EASTERN KENYA
The humidity on Lamu Island is higher than inland Kenya, although the humidity levels are no higher than other beachfront holiday locations in Kenya and parts of coastal East Africa. Humidity peaks from mid-day to late afternoon and is the highest during the months of January to March. The average day temperatures ranging lower 80’s F to 90’s F (26 C to 32 C) depending on the seasonal month, and January to March are the warmest months.
Cooler temperatures typically occur in July, August and September. The nighttime temperature averages around 73-79 F (23-26 C) dependent on the cooler and warmer months of the year. Depending on what time of year you visit Lamu Island, you may be subjected to rainfall. The global climate has become more unpredictable, but there are two rainy seasons on Lamu Island.
In April and May, the long rainy season arrives and ends by June, and you should expect an average of 12 to 18 days of rain producing a monthly average of 7 to 12 inches of precipitation. There are days that it rains only for a few hours switching between overcast and sunlight during the day. The shorter rainy season from November and December brings approximately 8 to 10 days of rain producing a total monthly average of 2 to 4 inches of rain. The rainy periods brings a pricing advantage.
Rooming costs reduce and some AfricanMecca guests stay longer to maximize their time on the beach. Lamu Island is a fabulous place to visit any time of year, but for the unsurpassed seaside vacation on the Indian Ocean, we recommend that you visit during the two dry seasons that begins in July and ends in October and also January through February. You will enjoy longer hours of sunlight throughout the year, giving you plenty of time for the many activities that make Lamu Island a remote, secluded "sun and sand" lover's paradise.

I had just the BEST time in Lamu - quite probably the holiday of my life - and am determined to go back in November. I have to say, the holiday was made by Altaf's dedication to what I needed - he worked very hard to ensure I got the full ten night stay at Kipungani, and I was impressed to say the least. Many thanks - I'll be back.
Jeremy King, Senior Producer GMTV - London, United Kingdom
Raza, I have returned from the trip to Kenya you arranged. It went quite well and all of your advice about hotels etc was correct and prevented me from doing things less than optimal. I really enjoyed Lamu; it is one of the best beaches I have seen.
