WHERE TO STAY IN OL CHORO OIROUA

At Ol Choro Oiroua Conservancy, AfricanMecca guests may choose a Tier 1 or Tier 2 accommodation. The conservancy does not offer a Tier 3 option. At Tier 1, Ngerende Island Lodge is a remarkable accommodation that is situated in an ox-bow bend of the Mara River. The natural shape of the waterway almost completely surrounds the lodge, leaving only a 100-yard section of land thus the “island” brand attached to it. The setting and a limited number of luxury rooms fused with stone, wood and part canvas create a sense of isolation where you are immersed by nature.



With only 7 luxurious living quarters to accommodate a maximum of fourteen guests, you feel almost completely alone and away from the masses of Masai Mara, and the hospitable staff stands ready to meet your every need. Although you are deep within Kenya’s bush country, your room offers modern conveniences and a homely atmosphere. Each sleeping chamber features beautiful wood floors, sitting area with small sofas, fireplace, armchair, bed, nightstands and writing desk. The ensuite bathroom features free-standing bathtub, dual-sink vanity and flush toilet. The honeymoon room at Ngerende has a private plunge pool.

The mid-range Tier 2 Richard’s Forest Camp enhances your wilderness experience of being sited deep in the verdant woodlands where foraging herbivores from elegant impalas, stripy zebras to mighty elephants and a lone buffalo are unrestrictedly sighted. The camp offers 8 forest tents to accommodate solo travelers, couples, families and small groups. The ensuite bathroom features open-air shower and bathtub, as well as a flush toilet. Power is solar-generated at the camp. Dining is classically al-fresco under shaded trees.



The other Tier 2 option is Fairmont Mara Safari Club; however, it has 50 tents with a maximum capacity of over 100 guests thus missing the opportunity to provide an intimate and personable wilderness experience in the Mara, but the cost of staying here is lower in comparison to Richard’s Forest Camp and Ngerende Island Lodge.
