WHERE TO STAY IN NORTHERN MASAI MARA
AfricanMecca provides you with the professional guidance and insight you need to make an informed lodging choice to fit your budget, as well as your personal preferences for location, service quality, cuisine, exclusivity, maximum number of guests, guiding standards and much more.
For example, based on your individual priorities, Mara North Conservancy may fit your needs as the largest conservancy in Masai Mara, and some sample guest accommodations in 3 Safari Tiers are Ngare Serian, Royal Mara Safari Lodge and Speke’s Camp. Similarly, the terrain, camps and bush experiences in Olare Motorogi Conservancy may be ideal for your trip to Kenya, and the sample 3 Safari Tier lodgings are Mara Plains Camp, Kicheche Bush Camp and Loyk Mara Camp.
Perhaps Mara Naboisho Conservancy fits your personal safari priorities with one of the highest per room to acreage distribution, so some sample properties are Ol Seki Mara Camp, Naboisho Camp and Basecamp Eagle View as part of the 3 Safari Tier categories. You may desire to be sited in a conservancy that houses only limited accommodations in the further “northest” expanse of the Mara or its unique deep woodlands, so our tour representative may recommend Ol Choro Oiroua Conservancy and its guest accommodations – Ngerende Island Lodge and Fairmont Mara Safari Club.
Porini Mara Camp and Ol Kinyei Gamewatchers Adventure Camp are two fine examples of the types of accommodations that you find in the pioneer Ol Kinyei Conservancy – the first in northern Masai Mara. In the far north, Enkerende Tented Camp and Mara River Lodge are budget representations of the guest lodgings in Lemek Conservancy. Again, these are just some of the accommodations that are available in the northern Masai Mara zone. Your AfricanMecca Safaris tour planner will help you find the perfect camp or lodge to fit your personal needs and desires.
These private Masai Mara conservancies along the northern border of national reserve were established to create critical wildlife management buffer zones. Each conservancy is founded upon a mutually-beneficial collaboration between landowners, conservation organizations and guest camps. Maasai landowners agree to restrict grazing, housing, agriculture in specific areas of their land, thereby allowing the presence of natural, untouched habitats and wildlife. In return, the landowners receive income from leases, conservancy fees, bednights and jobs for the communities living there.
The lease agreements are between landowners and camp investors, and each conservancy has an agreed-upon maximum number of beds. The arrangement benefits the accommodations that are members of the conservancy because guests are given exclusive access to the conservancy. The private-ownership status of the conservancies also means that a greater variety of safari activities are offered to guests, many of which are restricted in the main public reserve.
Furthermore, the conservancies share much of the same ecosystem as the reserve, so AfricanMecca guests see the same flora and fauna amidst terrain features that are unique to the conservancies. The camps and lodges in the conservancy also make significant contributions to improving the quality of life for local Maasai. A portion of the revenue from these safari accommodations is designated for community improvement projects in health, education and funding of micro-businesses, and many of the staff are hired from the surrounding villages.
