Ngorongoro Crater Pt.1 🌍
What an absolutely incredible place. There`s so much to see in the Ngorongoro crater, wildlife in every direction you look and the scenery is amazing, I felt like I was in a movie set.
Wildebeest (also known as ganu) visit the area as part of their great migration, thousands of them travel there to have their young before heading back northward towards the Serengeti plains and then on into the Maasai Mara Savannah.
Zebra 🦓 lots of zebra. Their stripes are unique to each individual like a finger print and they are in fact black with white stripes.
Warthog - Pumba 🐗
Black Rhino 🦏 - we saw 5 rhinos in total, some from quite a distance away because they are very sensitive to sound. A real pinch me moment to see an endangered animal in its natural habitat 🖤🩶

The best time to see the migration is during the dry season from July to early October.

During the calving season, the wildebeest gather in large herds in the Ndutu area, and the majority of the births happen within a very short window. Life at Chem Chem
There aren’t many places in the world where guests wake up to wildebeest grazing on the lawn right outside their suite. Or where giraffe stroll by nonchalantly as you take a dip in the swimming pool.
Set on the eastern edge of Lake Manyara, where blissful views of African sunsets and raw, untamed nature are offset by the exclusivity and opulence of the lodge.
‘I wanted to depict the darker reality of the well-known wildebeest migration,’ says Simon. Returning after a stampede at first light he saw this pack of spotted hyenas gorging on the lifeless trampled bodies of those that didn’t survive. As one hyena momentarily broke from the feast, it gazed across in Simon’s direction.
In the surge to cross the Mara River the blue wildebeest struggle to climb the deep gullies they carve – many slip and perish under the hooves of those behind them. Spotted hyenas, with jaws powerful enough to crunch bones, will devour everything except the horns of their prey.

A family of brave zebras lead the heard of wildebeest across the Emboo river.
We left our camp around 6am and waited at the riverbank until the animals decided to cross. Finally, after we baked in the heat of the Maasai Mara all day, the animals decided to cross at 5:30pm. Once one animal goes, they all follow. In this case the zebras were first, and about 5000 wildebeest followed.

It is the third week since the wildebeest herds have started crossing the rivers. The crossings are still in full swing as most of the herds move into the Masai Mara!
