WHERE TO STAY IN TSAVO WEST PARK
Your unforgettable trip to Tsavo West National Park is your chance to see pristine wilderness and wildlife in a natural setting. Even with so much natural beauty around you, if you choose an accommodation that does not suit your personal taste and budget, your time at Tsavo West National Park may be less than desirable.
Choosing a place to stay, though, can be intimidating, as online reviews are based on a one-time personal experience of visitors who may or may not share your values for traveling. AfricanMecca Safaris helps you choose the right accommodation for you by assigning each lodging with a tier rating that is based on an independent, personal and professional evaluation of numerous Tsavo camps and lodges on a comparative scale.
You choose from upmarket Tier 1, mid-range Tier 2 and value Tier 3. Tier 1 represents the highest level of luxury accommodation with exceptional service, food quality, location, guides, room quality, the lowest number of guests and much more.
At Tsavo West, our Tier 1 recommendation is Finch Hattons Camp. The boutique camp is inspired by the colonial style of traditional safaris with all the modern amenities you need during your premium East African tour. Your guest tent is constructed from natural materials and set upon a raised platform to maximize views of the surrounding waterholes.
Inside, the décor celebrates the early exploration of Kenya through artwork, furniture and other design elements. Choose from fourteen Luxury Tented Suites, two Luxury Tented Family Suites with two bedrooms and, for the utmost opulence, one Presidential Tented Suite.
For guests who desire a balance between quality and cost, we recommend three deluxe accommodations at our Tier 2 rating – Severin Safari Camp, Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge and the private conservancy based Lions Bluff Lodge. Severin Safari Camp features twenty-seven octagonal guest tents and suites that are cooled by fresh breezes flowing through mesh windows and front opening. Each guest tent has a small private patio, en-suite bathroom, personal safe and housekeeping services.
At Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge, the Chyulu Hills and Mount Kilimanjaro are always in sight on clear days. Choose from fifty-six rooms and suites. Views from your room are of either the watering hole or the distant Chyulu Hills. While in your room, you have fairly good privacy even though rooms are either situated in cottages with several rooms or in a multi-level building.
The discerning Lions Bluff Lodge, located in the 125,000 acres of Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary bordering Tsavo West, offers twelve rustic canvas chalets with sweeping views of the lowlands.
Even budget-conscious AfricanMecca visitants can enjoy the many safari experiences and tour activities at Tsavo West Park at our Tier 3 accommodation recommendation – Voyager Ziwani Safari Camp. Situated in a private sanctuary bordering the park, the camp’s location by the river appeals to most guests. The twenty-five en-suite tents are constructed along the Sante River, so you can watch the wildlife from the comfort of your private verandah. For a closer view of hippos in the river, walk along the pier that extends out into the river, and you will be safely entertained for hours by resident hippos, crocodiles and varied avian-life.

BEST TIME TO VISIT TSAVO WEST
We recommend the dry season in Tsavo as many animals travel to permanent water sources. The lack of rainfall means that few water and food sources are available thus the best time for a safari.
