WHERE TO STAY IN MERU PARK
Choosing an appropriate Kenya accommodation during your safari vacation is perhaps the most important part of your travel plans. The AfricanMecca Safari Tier system simplifies this process by giving you a comparative metric that reflects the quality of accommodation and safari experiences in Meru National Park based on varied factors.
Using a guest perspective and our professional insight, we evaluate exclusivity, location, guiding standards, logistics, amenities, service, food, room quality and other criteria that we know are important to our guests. The tier system uses three levels to distinguish accommodations – Tier 1 for premier luxury, Tier 2 for mid-range deluxe and Tier 3 for economic value. Each of these tiers is represented in our hand-selected accommodations for Meru National Park.
For guests who desire the utmost pampering and luxury, Elewana Elsa's Kopje offers nine lodging options that celebrate the life and work of Joy and George Adamson. The Adamsons are noted for their work with lions that inspired the film “Born Free”. This boutique lodge is situated on the top of Mughwango Hill just above the original site of George’s Camp at the heart of the park. The architecture preserves the natural features of the wilderness, including the utilization of volcanic rock outcrops in the design and hand-crafted furniture built from tree trucks.
Guest rooms are located inside rustically luxurious cottages, and each room features a private verandah with stunning views of the park and en-suite bathroom. For a couple’s romantic or honeymoon vacation in Kenya, we recommend the three-level Honeymoon Suite that can also be transformed into family rooming. A private house is also available.
For AfricanMecca guests who desire very good quality at a lesser price than Tier 1 premium accommodations, we recommend Rhino River Camp and Offbeat Meru Camp, both of which are Tier 2 deluxe accommodations. Located on the border of the park, Rhino River Camp features six en-suite guest tents set within 80 acres of private wilderness. Mesh and canvas flaps allow cool breezes and light to flow freely during the day. There is separate zen zone for quiet time. The Karen Blixen Suite is perfect for couples and small families.
Offbeat Meru Camp is located in Bisanadi National Reserve that shares a border with Meru National Park. The camp features seven bush tents, all with en-suite bathroom with bucket showers. There is a family tent available with two separate areas for the parents and children.
At Tier 3, Ikweta Safari Camp is a perfect complement to your budget-friendly trip to this outback of East Africa. The camp is located just two kilometers from the main Murera Gate entrance of Meru Park, so you have relatively easy access to all of your safari activities. Choose from ten canvas guest tents, all of which have private verandahs, convenient luggage racks, writing desks and en-suite bathrooms. Common areas include a restaurant, lounge, bar and swimming pool.
