GUIDE ON ANDBEYOND KICHWA TEMBO TENTED CAMP IN KENYA

If you prefer to have a balance of quality and cost for your remote travel in the south-western plains of Kenya, we recommend andBeyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp, a deluxe andbeyond accommodation that is in the foothills of the Oloololo Escarpment. The camp is sited at the western edge of Masai Mara National Reserve in a verdant forest from which you have expansive plains views of the reserve. The superb location means that you can view wildlife from the comfort of the camp, including the immense herds of the Great Masai Mara Wildebeest Migration from July to October. As a mid-range accommodation for your Masai Mara photographic tour with AfricanMecca, the camp offers 40 neo and original safari tents for an average of 80 guests. Tent sizes include 20 Superior, 8 Superior View and 12 Classic. Both the Superior Tents are the ones that have been completely restructured and refurbished in neo-soothing design while the Classic Tents are still the same as originally built. The interior of your Superior and Superior View Tents pacifies your body and mind. Wood accents are washed in pale, muted colors, and authentic African artifacts adorn the headboard and other surfaces. The darker wood tones of the Classic Tents create a more traditional yesteryear ambience. The best part of your guest tent, though, is that your bed faces the vast savannah plains or settled amidst the luxuriant forest, so you watch or hear the natural world around you while staying cozy and comfortable. Your private verandah features comfortable safari-style seating and a small table. Additional features of the Superior and Superior View Tents are the built-in daybed and en-suite bathroom with dual vanity, spacious shower and flush toilet. The camp is designed to provide guests with a discerning African holiday hideaway, with some tents being away from the common areas. Guests with limited mobility, though, may wish to request one of the tents that are closest to the dining area, reception and other shared spaces. The Superiors are built on stilts to optimize the views while the slightly elevated Classic Tents are sited in the forested region of the campgrounds with obstructed views of the Sabaringo River. The newer Superior range is 50% larger than the original Classic range with plans for future upgrades to the latter to ensure consistency throughout both the ranges. The main difference between the Superior and Superior View is the latter has sweeping views of the frontal plains while the former is sited behind the Superior View thus the views are partly limited amidst plains, bushes and trees. There are also 3 pairs of tents with a total of six rooms at Kichwa Tembo Camp that can cater safari vacationing families with young children. There is a pathway between the adjacent family tent that can be opened or closed based on the family’s needs. Children can access parent’s tent from the inside without the necessity of an exterior entry though a distinct entry is available for each paired tent. Your wake-up call includes fresh coffee and tea served with biscuits to enjoy while a glorious sunrise paints the landscape in golden colors. Take a few quiet moments to savor your surroundings from your verandah before dressing for your morning game drive. Your guide takes time to learn about your “wish list” of wildlife, and then determines the best route through the game reserve to meet your desires. Throughout the year, the Mara Triangle offers a diversity of resident animals, such as Thomson’s gazelles, elephants, impalas, topis, hippos, giraffes and other grazers and foragers. The keen eye of your guide increases your chances of seeing some of the reserves black-maned lions, cheetahs, hyenas and other camouflaged hunters. As your game drive ends, you may enjoy breakfast in the bush or return to camp. You have some time before and after lunch to take a bush walk, read, nap, freshen up and relax. Afternoon tea prepares you for another exploratory trip in Masai Mara Reserve to witness the twilight behaviors of the animals, followed by sundowners on the Oloololo Escarpment. After dinner, venture out into the night to explore the mysterious animal behaviors in the private concession. After your day of action-packed African safari experiences, you welcome the gentle sounds of the bush to lull you to sleep. Other AfricanMecca recommended activities at andbeyond Kichwa Tembo that greatly enhance your time in Masai Mara are escarpment hiking, bush trails, cultural tours and hot air ballooning.
