GUIDE ON LELESHWA SEASONAL CAMP IN KENYA
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Leleshwa Seasonal Camp
Update: Leleshwa Seasonal Camp no longer has a permanent base in Masai Mara. It only now operates as a private mobile luxury camp in most parks and reserves of Kenya i.e. Masai Mara, Laikipia, Samburu, Shaba, Meru, Nakuru, Amboseli, Tsavo and Aberdare.
Breathtakingly beautiful, the Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the esteemed locations on the centuries-old Great Wildebeest Migration route. Following pure instinct in their quest for food, water, and breeding grounds, million-strong herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles complete a circular path through Kenya and Tanzania. What if you could spend a vacation in this primeval region with just your family and friends without the disturbance of large crowds?Gillian and Joe Charleson with Raymond and their team make it possible - at the Leleshwa Seasonal Camp. Initially located in the east of the Masai Mara Reserve, this deluxe holiday camp is now hidden away in a lovely acacia forest in the south of the reserve, within the Olderkesi Conservancy. Prepare to be charmed by the simplistic ambiance of the stayover, adorned with Kenyan prints and artifacts that lend an air of vibrant elegance to the interiors. Your entire tour will be spent immersed in nature, giving you an elusive glimpse of a natural world undisturbed by humans.
Possibly the most fascinating feature about this place is that it is seasonal and is open for tourists only from June to October. Once the great herds move on, the camp is closed down, and nature is allowed to rejuvenate and return to its pristine state. For this reason, the time you spend in this little corner of the iconic Masai Mara Reserve is truly precious.
Introduce your kids to the importance of conservation, as they play in the common areas overlooking the Sand River. The location is well-known for its many wildlife visitors that drop by for a drink at the river. You will also get the opportunity to experience the warm hospitality of your hosts and Maasai owners. As evening descends, a Maasai guard will escort you to your room for a comfortable sleep.
Leleshwa Seasonal Camp has a limited number of rooms. They also take bookings for a private group of vacationers wishing to spend holiday time with friends and family. You will follow pathways to your unit that are lit with lanterns at night. Choose from 7 tented rooms in different configurations such as 5 Luxury Tents suitable for a couple or two traveling companions with a double bed or twin single beds, respectively.
The Luxury Suite/Triple Tents have an extra bed set up in the lounge for an extra guest or a child accompanying their parents. The Luxury Family Suite has two ensuite bedrooms with a shared lounge to relax and enjoy the delightful sights and lilting sounds of the Masai Mara Reserve.
Each tented room is made with tough, rip-stop canvas material in lovely earthy tones designed to blend into the surrounding landscape. Mesh windows with roll-up canvas keep out bugs but let in the cool breezes and muted chirps of crickets that lull you to sleep. Soft linens, cozy duvets, and heavy blankets are placed on the beds to keep you warm against the cool weather of the Masai Mara Reserve. Slip into bed at night to find a hot water bottle thoughtfully placed for your comfort.
Additional amenities include open racks for unpacking, folding chairs and tables, an electronic safe, a wooden chest, and area rugs on the tarp-covered floors. A minibar and tea and coffee making supplies are also provided if you feel like a beverage. Small touches like carved animals and a bouquet of fresh flowers add to the quiet, rustic charm. You will also have an ensuite bathroom featuring a dresser with a mirror, single sink vanity, dressing robes, and quality toiletries for your use. A lovely covered verandah has a small seating arrangement.
Leleshwa Seasonal Camp offers you the luxury of exploring the Masai Mara Reserve at your own pace, at timings that are best suited for your little ones. Exciting game driving excursions aboard customized 4x4 safari vehicles give you an introduction to the marvelous wildlife species that thrive in this idyllic land. An expert Maasai guide accompanies you to and enthralls with his fascinating insights into animal behavior.
Use your vacation time to dip into his treasure trove of exciting anecdotes collected over a lifetime of living in close proximity to the animals, birds, insects, amphibians, reptiles, and more. If you would like to get a closer look at the hidden treasures of the bush, do sign up for eye-opening nature walks where you will learn more about the flora and how the entire ecosystem of the Masai Mara Reserve functions.
You could also be lucky enough to witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Great Migration. Perchance, you might watch the ungulates battling ravenous crocodiles as they cross the rivers or elude the big cats lying in wait for a careless move. Night game drives, visiting the Maasai elders at the authentic village, birdwatching, and hot air ballooning are other activities to do here. Children can participate in the kiddie club, specifically organized, keeping their curiosity, wonder, excitement, and stamina in mind.
