Experience the wildness of Kenya at Mara Plains Camp, a premium East African safari accommodation that is located in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Set along the Ntiakatek River at the northern border of Masai Mara National Reserve, the small, boutique camp is an exceptional base for your captivating tour of Kenya’s remote bush country with AfricanMecca. With only 7 tents, the maximum guest capacity at Mara Plains Camp is limited to 14 lodgers. With such a small number of guests, you enjoy the utmost in exclusive service, as well as a complete sense of isolation during your nature-centric travel in the Masai Mara wilderness. Although the flora and fauna of the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem are sure to keep your attention beyond the property and its facilities, Mara Plains itself is a nature-holistic place to intimately rejuvenate thus offering an impeccable encampment for honeymooners. The central areas are arranged in a pod configuration, and the inter-connected layout with its dense forest locality enhances your immersion deep in the Kenyan wilderness. The lounge tent is constructed upon an elevated platform to maximize your views of the property and beyond. Brass chandeliers, leather and textile sofas, white and rich purple accent cushions, wooden floors, Persian rugs and other decorative elements tell the story of Kenya’s earliest explorers, traders and safari adventurers. Each guest tent is individually appointed, and standard furnishings include bed, nightstands with lamps, bench, writing desk, safari wardrobe, luggage rack, yesteryear chest along with a sitting area with chairs and coffee table. The romance and charm continue in the open plan en-suite bathroom augmented with a Lamu-style backdrop door that houses the shower. The space also features a free-standing copper bathtub, dual vanity with copper vessel basins and large mirrors, open shower area, towels racks and a separate area with flush toilet. You also have a private outdoor verandah with safari-style chairs, small table and daybed. You simply cannot imagine the excitement and anticipation of your first day of your authentic bush holiday at Kenya’s Mara Plains Camp. You may even feel as if you are living in a dream. Each morning a gentle voice and soft sunlight welcome you to a fine-looking morning. The fragrance of fresh coffee and tea fills your tent. You wrap yourself in a cozy robe and step out into the warmth of daylight that slowly creeps across your verandah. In the distance, you see a variety of animals grazing and making their way to the river and plains. The enchanting setting could keep you all day, but you have an exciting, action-packed morning game drive planned. You dress and head out to meet your guide. Traveling across the vast conservancy landscape is a highlight of your exploratory Masai Mara trip. The drives give you a comprehensive introduction to the larger ecosystem of the reserve, as well as ample opportunities to witness natural behaviors of elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, hippos and other herbivores. Your guide has a keen eye and personal knowledge of the game reserve, so your chances of spotting a pride of lions, lone cheetah, shy leopard, pack of hyenas and other carnivores is also quite good. The Masai Mara Wildebeest Migration passes through the area from July to October, so during these months you may see expansive herds of gnus primarily and zebras. After a few hours, your appetite signals the time for a morning meal and you return to camp for a delicious breakfast. Before and after lunch, you have some free time for a leisurely guided walk, napping, reading, chatting with guests and other vacationing pastimes. Later, afternoon tea is served, and then you head back into the bush for an afternoon game drive and sundowners. Dinner is followed by engaging conversation around the campfire with a glass of cognac before you retire for the night. AfricanMecca recommends that you stay at the luxurious Mara Plains Camp for at least three days. This schedule allows time for a morning hot air balloon safari with champagne bush breakfast, as well as an afternoon visit to a local Maasai village and safari walks.
