GUIDE ON PORINI MARA CAMP IN KENYA
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Porini Mara Camp
Porini Mara Camp is a pioneer bush accommodation that is located in the private Ol Kinyei Conservancy along the northern-eastern fringes of Masai Mara National Reserve. This camp was the first that came up with a conservancy based concept. Staying outside the public reserve offers AfricanMecca guests many advantages, such as exclusivity, additional activities that are restricted inside the reserve and much more. As a mid-range tented establishment, Porini Mara gives you a very good, wholesome quality experience in lodging, service, cuisine, guiding standards and more. With only 6 guest tents, the camp has an average of twelve guest maximum capacity. In addition to the small number of guests, you are also immersed in a stunning setting amidst yellow-barked acacia trees. Inside your tent are homely furnishings that ensure you a comfortable Masai Mara wilderness holiday, including a natural log bed, nightstand with lamp, dressing table, chair, open wooden hanger with a vertical canvas closet. The en-suite bathroom features a single-sink vanity with mirror, flush toilet and safari-style bucket shower. One of the tents has a wheelchair ramp for our guests with limited mobility. We advise guests who have minimal experience with bucket showers that the water is adequate for a quick shower, but may not allow a long shower. The abundance of wildlife draws many of our guests to Masai Mara. Your stay at Porini Mara means that you have a front row seat to Kenya’s most sought-after animals at any time of the year during your remote East African adventurous vacation! Giraffes, hippos, impalas, buffalos, zebras, topis and other herbivores roam freely in the conservancy, as well as on the campgrounds. Best of all, the grand, verdant landscape and resident animals are all easily viewed from your bed, as well as on your elevated private verandah. The first day of your magical African safari custom begins with fresh coffee and tea brought to your tent. Golden sunlight filters into your tent as you savor the taste of a warm and aromatic beverage. After freshening up, you meet with your guide to discuss the morning game drive. Your guide plays a key role in you having a phenomenal terrestrial tour of Masai Mara Game Reserve and the Ol Kinyei Conservancy. The Ol Kinyei guides at Porini Mara Camp have an intimate understanding of the flora and fauna, as well as an almost instinctual talent for locating wildlife. You greatly appreciate the comfort of a custom-built safari vehicle as your guide skillfully traverses the terrain, leaving you to focus on witness elephants, gazelles, wildebeests, elands and other grazers. Your guide points out lions, cheetahs and other predators that are ever-watchful of the prey animals on the plains. From July to October, you also see the vast herds of wildebeests and zebras of the Masai Mara - Serengeti Migration. Should your morning game drive be in the conservancy, we recommend that you partake in a bush breakfast amidst the wildlife. We can also arrange a full-day game drive trip in the main reserve or in the adjacent Naboisho Conservancy along with a picnic lunch. Otherwise, you return to camp for a scrumptious morning meal with other guests. You then spend some time resting, lounging on your verandah, reading and other pastimes. After lunch, you may wish to take a guided nature walk around the encampments, visit a local village or take a quick siesta before afternoon tea. The subtle changes in animal behaviors that occur at twilight, as well as the appearance of nocturnal species, is why we recommend an afternoon to evening-night game drive. The late-day drive sojourns for a sundowner, a safari tradition since the early explorers. You return to camp for dinner and a nightcap before retiring to bed. Should your safari travels allow for stay at Porini Mara for three or more nights, AfricanMecca recommends that you take a hot air balloon ride over the reserve for a breathtaking and bird’s eye perspective of the plains biosphere and its inhabitants.
