GUIDE ON KICHECHE VALLEY CAMP IN KENYA
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Kicheche Valley Camp
Kicheche Valley Camp is sited on the 50,000 acres north-eastern fringes of Masai Mara in the Naboisho Conservancy offering discerning guests a deluxe East African accommodation and wholesome safari experience. The camp property has an authentic, intimate feel to it, thanks in part to the valley location with indigenous, verdant trees and rocky boulders. The neutral colors of the tents blend perfectly with the vegetation, so you have a sense of complete seclusion within the African bush. With only 6 tents, the staff only tends to a maximum of twelve guests, so you are pampered with personal, friendly service during your adventurous travel in Masai Mara National Reserve. Otherwise, you simply enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush from your tent. The private verandah is slightly raised above ground, and features dark wood flooring, armchairs and a small table. The color palette inside your tent stands in contrast to the deeper colors of your verandah. Pale floors and wood furnishings are accented with splashes of chocolate brown and red ochre. Furnishings include cedar bed, nightstands, bedside lamps, writing desk and sofa-cum-daybed. A partition divides the sleeping area and bathroom. The muted tones continue into the en-suite where you find a twin-sink pedestal vanity, safari shower, separate flush toilet, dresser, towel rack and square mirrors. All guest tents have hot and cold running water. For guests who are on a romantic holiday in Kenya including honeymooners or anniversary celebrators, we recommend the more private tents that are furthest from the main areas. AfricanMecca guests with limited mobility and families with children may prefer the tents that are closer to the common areas. Low wattage power is available 24 hours each day, and the camp has a back-up generator. Daily laundry service is available. Common areas include a lounge-cum-dining room with views the scrubland and also an on-site onsite curio shop. Game drives are an excellent way to start your exploratory tour of Masai Mara Reserve. As part of your wake-up call, hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate and biscuits are brought to your tent. After you fend off the early morning’s chill and dress, you will meet your guide in the common area to talk about your desires for the day. Feel free to share your every wish, as your guide’s knowledge of the conservancy means that you may very well have a superlative African photographic trip. Giraffes, elephants, hippos, gazelles, impalas, elands, topis and many other herbivores are resident species in the area, as well as stealthy, territorial cheetahs, leopards, lions, hyenas and other hunters. From July to October, Masai Mara Game Reserve is also part of the migration route for massive herds of wildebeests and zebras. Occasionally, the guides locate a black rhino to conclude the last sighting of the prized Big Five. Even our birding guests have plenty to see, such as northern white-crowned shrikes, bush pipits, white-headed buffalo weavers, to name only a few of the common avi-fauna. With so much awe-inspiring flora and fauna, you may ignore your growing hunger, but the staff of Kicheche Valley Camp take great pride in preparing a delicious breakfast for you back at camp. The excitement and heart-pounding action of your morning may leave you needing a quick nap before lunch. You may also spend some time reading and relaxing. After lunch, we recommend that you visit a local village, take a guided nature walk or learn about the community projects that are supported by the camp. Tea is served in the late day before your end of day game drive. Sunset cocktails are a safari tradition, and the camp property offers many spots for incredible views across the plains. Return to camp for a fantastic candlelight dinner under the stars, followed by a glass of cognac by the fire. Our more active guests may wish to venture out into the darkness for a night game drive in the conservancy. To enhance your Kenya outdoor vacation, AfricanMecca recommends hot air ballooning over the reserve and fly camping. We can also arrange a full day game drive into the public Mara reserve along with a picnic lunch.
