GUIDE ON ILKELIANI CAMP IN KENYA
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Ilkeliani Camp
Ilkeliani Camp is one of the options for budget-conscious guests who desire a non-frill yet wondrous vacation trip to the Masai Mara Reserve. The camp is located near the main eastern gate of the reserve, so you have a nice place to stay that offers convenient access to the reserve via a safe suspension bridge. Set amidst a river woodland, the incredible views include the Talek River and the plains reserve. From the onset of your stay, the warmth and friendliness of the staff is apparent as you are escorted to one of the 17 bush tents. Your tent patio keeps you close to nature as you nap on the daybed, sip a cup of tea or coffee, read your favorite book and watch the activity of terrestrial, aquatic and avian wildlife at the river. Inside, the modest décor is inspired by the rich greens, taupe and other earthy colors of the natural surroundings. The en-suite bathroom features flush toilet, shower with solar-heated water, mirror, towel racks and single vessel sink. A personal safe keeps your valuables locked away while you are out experiencing your dream East African safari in the remote wilds of south-western Kenya. Other amenities include writing desk and hanger for your clothing and luggage. The camp has been designed to treat guests to sunset or sunrise, one of Africa’s many spectacular natural events, so we advise AfricanMecca guests to take this into consideration when reserving their tents. Additionally, families and guests with limited mobility may prefer tents that are located closer to the common areas. AfricanMecca Safaris arranges all of the non-stop action for your wildlife photo tour in Kenya. We suggest that you partake of an early morning game drive to get a feel for all that Masai Mara Game Reserve has to offer. You are escorted into the bush by an experienced guide who knows the reserve intimately, right down to the favorite and strategic locations of the animals that you most want to see! As you travel across the landscape, your guide describes the ecological and cultural value of the flora and fauna, as well as points out any animal behaviors, such as lion kills, grazing and foraging, and during the long rainy season, mammalian birthing. If your ideal Masai Mara holiday expedition occurs from July to October, your game drive takes you to excellent vantage points for seeing some of the Great Migration. More than 1.5 million wildebeests and vast numbers of zebras travel through the reserve from northern Serengeti during these months. Guests can return to camp for breakfast, or we can arrange a half-day outing that includes a bush breakfast. Before lunch, watch the animals at the river or read a book under a shade tree. After your mid-day meal, indulge in siesta mode before an afternoon game drive, nature walk or community visit. You can also spend this time learning first-hand about some of the community projects that are supported by Ilkeliani Camp. Observe new and unique twilight behaviors during an afternoon to early evening game drive, followed by sundowners and dinner. Next morning, you may wish to enhance your time at the reserve with a superb African aerial travel experience – a Mara hot air balloon safari as an add-on activity option!
