GUIDE ON BASECAMP MASAI MARA IN KENYA
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Basecamp Masai Mara
For the frugal African eco-traveler, we recommend Basecamp Masai Mara located along the Talek River on the eastern edge of the Masai Mara wilderness. The camp offers non-frill tented accommodations with a viewing platform for watching wildlife activity along the river. Having a front row seat to the flora and fauna is sure to be a highlight of your memorable bush tour of Masai Mara National Reserve with AfricanMecca! Although the camp is budget-friendly, you feel right at home in one of the 12 guest tents. The structures of the camp are built from natural materials to blend into the bush, including thatched roofs, beautiful wood floors and partial stone mud walls. You will be contented to have a private deck with views of the wilderness and verdant forest that leads up to the nearby Talek River. The setting is perfect for relaxing in the morning, napping in the afternoon and enjoying the twilight activity of the animals. Inside you find modest furnishings from shelf storage, side table, chairs and laundry basket along with an en-suite bathroom. The open air shower features solar-heated water to help you warmly wash off after your action-adventure trip in this expanse of Kenya’s premier game reserve. Families with children are quite comfortable in the camp’s larger family tent. All rooms are well-situated for viewing the river or the savannah, although you may prefer a tent that is further away from the main areas including the kitchen and bar for a more peaceful and private setting. We advise our nature-vacationing guests that when staying at Basecamp Mara, keep your tent zipped close as the resident monkeys are known for pilfering items in open tents. With only twenty-four beds for guests in twelve tents, Basecamp Masai Mara offers you a non-mass, quiet and relaxing East African safari experience. Start your day with a cup of coffee or tea, and then meet your guide for a morning game drive. Before you know it, your dream holiday in Masai Mara Reserve is underway! You travel across the plains landscape while listening intently to your guide. Local folklore, sustainable tourism, environmental value and personal stories are just some of the entertaining and enlightening conversations. Your guide stops the vehicle and points in the distance. You see a group of elephants, giraffes, gazelles, buffalos and other herbivores graze quietly. Close by may be lions, cheetahs and other large predator watching for an easy morning meal. Should you visit Masai Mara Game Reserve with AfricanMecca from July to October, you may see over one million wildebeests and tens of thousands of zebras, all on the never-ending journey known as the “Great Migration.” Return to camp for a delicious breakfast before retiring to your tent for a rest. The set menu also includes an adequate lunch to satisfy your appetite before an afternoon siesta. For your late afternoon activity, we can arrange a birding tour, game drive and village visit. Optional balloon safari is also available early in the mornings. End your day with cocktails and dinner before slumbering off to sleep.
