Set inside the northern corner of Masai Mara National Reserve close to the private conservancy of Olare Motorogi and Mara North Conservancy , Mara Expedition Camp offers an exceptional base for your adventure in one of Africa’s best wildlife destinations. AfricanMecca Safaris highly recommends Mara Expedition for a quintessential Kenya bush travel experience alongside its sister camp, Mara Plains, located a few miles away. The colonial styling, romance and luxury comfort sets this camp apart from more contemporary accommodations in Masai Mara. The 5 custom-designed boutique tents place our guests back in time to be immersed in the adventurous spirit of early explorers. Your premier tent is shaded by a natural forest canopy of African ebony trees. Inside are all the finest amenities you need while still maintain an authentic bush experience. Aged Indian campaign chests, amazing textiles, brass chandeliers, gorgeous wood furniture, Persian rug and rich leather details have been tastefully integrated into the décor. The en-suite bathroom features a bucket shower with hot water delivered to your tent as needed as well as a flush toilet and vanity with hot and cold running water. As a low impact, immersive camp, the electrical system at Mara Expedition does not support shavers and hair dryers. A private verandah gives you a place to relax and unwind while listening to the sounds of the Kenyan wilderness. You feel a complete sense of isolation in the bush as the safari camp is nestled within a riverine forest along the Ntiakitiak River. Nearby are the vast open savannah plains of the north-central part of the Masai Mara. You simply cannot imagine a more ideal safari park as a secluded getaway for your dream holiday in Africa. The outdoor common areas are lit with lanterns, so you can always enjoy the immense dark skies over Kenya that are filled with an endless number of stars while enjoying a glass of cognac or wine. A central lounge, dining area and firepit round out the camp’s fine offerings. Mara Expedition Camp caters to photographers, amateurs and professionals alike. Two Canon cameras are available for guests who do not bring their own equipment or want a higher-level camera for their phenomenal photographic tour of Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. Mara Expedition celebrates the many time-honored traditions of safari. Each morning you are awakened with freshly-brewed coffee and tea as part of your wake-up service. After dressing in your favorite safari attire, you meet your guide who plans your personalized trip into the Mara wilderness. You are in the best hands for your game drive. The guides have personal knowledge of the best locations to see elephants, giraffes, gazelles, hippos and grazing and foraging herbivores, as well as lions, cheetahs, leopards and other stealthy predators. From July to October, the vast landscape is home to over one and half million wildebeests and thousands of zebras that traverse the area as part of the Masai Mara - Serengeti Migration. After spending time in the conservancy, return to camp for a breakfast that satisfies even the best foodie before finding a quiet place to relax, read and nap. More edible creations are served for lunch. After filling your belly, you may engage with other guests, browse the offerings in the small library, relax with a refreshing cocktail in the lounge and many other pastimes in the camp. AfricanMecca can also arrange visits to a local school, Maasai village and community project. Tea is served in the late afternoon before you journey back into the bush. As the sun sinks closer to the horizon, your guide takes you to a picturesque spot for the time-honored East African safari tradition of sunset cocktails. Dinner is served in the main dining area or outdoors underneath the glittering night sky, after which we recommend that you order a glass of cognac or wine and gather around the campfire to share entertaining bush stories. Bush vacationing for three days at Mara Expedition Camp allows you time to partake of an optional hot-air balloon safari over the Masai Mara Game Reserve, followed by another age-old safari tradition – champagne breakfast in the bush amidst the wildlife.
