GUIDE ON LITTLE GOVERNORS CAMP IN KENYA
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Little Governors Camp
Your mid-range safari vacation in Masai Mara National Reserve at Little Governor’s Camp starts with an adventurous short boat ride across the Mara River along with a guided walk through the surrounding pristine riverine forest. The camp encircles a natural marshy waterhole that is popular among herbivores, carnivores and avi-fauna, so you will always feel a part of nature during your stay. If you prefer views of the Mara River, we recommend staying at the Governors Camp, the sister property. With 17 traditional tents, Little Governor’s offers a fine balance between quality and price. Your classic tent is impressively authentic and charming, offering bedside tables, comfortable double or twin beds, dresser, luggage hanger rack and other characteristic furnishings, as well as an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, washbasin, flush toilet, shower and bidet. Your private space extends outdoors to a spacious wooden verandah with seating. Watching elephants, hippos, buffalos, warthogs, monkeys and other resident fauna roam freely throughout the unfenced property is a wondrous way to pass the time in between your outback Kenya safari activities. While every tent gives you excellent viewing opportunities at the watering hole, we recommend the guest tents towards the end for seclusion and additional viewing of the fauna activity in the reserve. Tent 17 is favored by safari honeymooners as it sits at the corridor entrance of the marsh with maximal wildlife activity (read more on when is the best time to visit Masai Mara on an East Africa safari). AfricanMecca guests with limited mobility, as well as families, though, may prefer the tents that are situated closer to the dining tent and other common areas. We advise our guests who require internet connectivity during their remote travel in Africa that the Wi-Fi service at Little Governor’s can be choppy at times, but still available at no extra cost. As part of your wake up service, freshly brewed coffee and tea are brought to your tent as the sun peeks over the horizon. Spend a bit of time freshening up, and then meet with your guide to share your wish list of animals for your personalized tour in Masai Mara Reserve. The guides are from local villages and grew up in the area, so they innately know the best places to see the animals and behaviors that you seek. The reserve is home to many resident species, so you are likely to see not only the Big 5, but many other of Kenya’s most sought after fauna including larger cats like lions, leopards, cheetahs to the small versions of genets, civets, caracals and more. From July to October, your photographic safari holiday in Eastern Africa is further enhanced by the presence of massive herds of wildebeests and zebras that arrive from the adjoining Serengeti National Park and travel through the reserve as part of the Great Wildebeest Migration. For breakfast, you may either enjoy a morning picnic amid the wildlife or return to camp. The remainder of your day is spent reading, relaxing, perusing the curio shop, meeting other guests, touring a local village and watching the animals from the comfort of your tent. A delicious outdoor lunch satisfies your building appetite, followed by afternoon tea later in the day. Sundowners are served in the bush after your late day game drive or around the fire at the camp. As the stars start to twinkle in the skies, a tasty set-menu dinner is served in the mess tent. If you are staying at Little Governor’s Camp for two to three days, AfricanMecca can arrange other distinct activities at a supplemental fee, including hot air balloon safari, overnight and day fishing trips to Lake Victoria, walking safari in Mara North Conservancy and much more.
