Governor's Private Camp offers you a safari experience reminiscent of the era when the first explorers arrived in Africa complete with classic tents, traditional handcrafted wooden furniture and fine dining in crystal and chinaware. Located on the lush banks of the Mara River, as it follows a meandering path through the central Masai Mara Reserve (view park map), this deluxe camp is a private collection of canvas tents almost hidden in the dense riverine forest.



This enchanting woodland envelopes you completely on your wildlife holiday in magical Kenya with birds like nesting hornbills and turacos calling from their perches as elephants make their way towards the river to bathe and drink. Crocodiles swim lazily by and hippos lay sprawled on the sandy banks dipping into to the water to cool off now and then.

The camp has just 8 tented rooms, and if you intend to tour East Africa as part of a small family group, you can book the entire camp, though, the camp takes bookings for a minimum of 6 tents for AfricanMecca. This is to ensure that no other guests are booked except your party. The lounge, dining area cum bar and the rooms are all setup on wooden platforms overlooking the river, their supplemented green canvas tarp further shades the tent.



Lounge in their comfortable sofas with a book reveling in the soothing sounds of the wilderness and watch animals visit to drink at the river. If the wildebeest, zebras, elands and gazelles choose the camp's environs to cross the river on their migratory route, you can be a spectator to their struggle for survival as they navigate the crocodile-infested waters.

When adventurously traveling in the Masai Mara Game Reserve, you can choose from rooms with double beds or twin beds with rollback canvas entrances. Your tent also has a mesh layer, to allow in the cool breezes wafting up from the river or you lower it down for privacy. Each room also includes a couple of safari chairs, luggage rack, side table and dresser.



The en-suite bathroom at the back come with twin basins, curtained off shower area and quality toiletries for your use. Each tent also has a wooden patio for relaxing in comfortable safari chairs. Have your meals in the mess tent or on the lawns of the campground. And on your request, Governor’s Private Camp can even set up a bush meal on a shady nook of the riverbank.
