GUIDE ON MBWEHA CAMP IN KENYA

Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Mbweha Camp

Should you prefer to stay on the outskirts of Lake Nakuru National Park (view map), Mbweha Camp is a mid-range accommodation that offers 10 hut-like stone cottages. Set within a 6,400-acre private Congreve Conservancy on the southern edge of the park, the tranquil ambience of the camp is exactly what you will need during your activity-intense tour of Lake Nakuru National Park.

With the park so close-at-hand, you can spend your days viewing some of the 450 resident and migratory birds, including the one to two million lesser and greater flamingos that draw wildlife-seeking guests, photographers and documentary filmmakers. At the camp, Mbweha offers two family cottages, four double bed cottages and four twin cottages to meet the needs of solo travelers, small groups, families and couples including vacationing honeymooners and romantic escapaders.

The cottages are built from lava stone and sheltered from the elements by thatched roofs. Enhance your romantic holiday in Kenya with AfricanMecca with a candlelit bath in an outdoor tub in your distinct suite cottage or simply sit and relax under the star-filled sky before your retire for the night.

Being on a private conservancy during your visit gives you access to extra activities that are not allowed within the park, such as guided night drives to see nocturnal species and also bush walks. The flat terrain is perfectly-suited for mountain biking, and you are sure to have an adventurous trip to Kenya when you explore the wilderness on horseback.

A disadvantage being located outside the park is the drive to the park is around 30-45 minutes and if you exit the park after your morning game drive, you will need to pay again for your park fees thus a full day game drive in the park is recommended with a picnic lunch. We recommend two nights stay if you want to experience other activities other than game drives.

The day starts with breakfast and a cup of tea or coffee before your full day game drive amidst black and white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes and other grazing herbivores. Your guide helps you distinguish between lesser and greater flamingos by the coloration of the bills, and you keep count of the many other bird species you see!

While the lake is the most recognized feature of the park, you will also find many other large and small land-based creatures to give you a wondrous AfricanMecca photo safari in central Kenya. Thomson's gazelles, Grant's gazelles, impalas and other plains animals are found on the grassy savannahs, and the woodlands are filled with Colobus monkeys, birds and other forest dwelling fauna. Lions, hyenas, golden cats, leopards and wildcats are just some of the predatory species.

After returning to the camp later in the afternoon, take an optional guided nature walk to see smaller denizens of the conservancy before enjoying your sundowner. Gather around the fire with other guests for pre-dinner cocktails and engaging conversation about your exploratory travel in East Africa. After dinner, a guard escorts you back to your Mbweha cottage where you drift off to sleep listening to the sounds of Africa's natural beauty -- the perfect ending to a spectacular day.
