Sprawled at an elevation of almost 6,000 feet, Sosian Lodge is a privately owned property that covers an area of 24,000 acres of awesome wilderness in northern Laikipia. Built in the 1940’s along the lines of rural Italian architecture, this deluxe lodge has delightful elements of the colonial era infused in its decor that are a source of fascination of adventurous visitants traveling in Kenya. The lodge and ranch, located on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, received a new avatar five decades later when its ownership changed hands. The lodge was renovated and the gnarled ranch with the help of favorable natural conditions was returned to its former glory of dense vegetation and varied wildlife, roaming without the restrictions of fences. Sosian Lodge comprises of 4 cottages set in beautifully landscaped lawns. The main cottage houses the lounge and dining area and also has a billiards table for family recreation. The lodge can stay 14 AfricanMecca guests at a time and each of guest cottages has its own spacious patio with light furniture for evenings of tranquility and ease on your relaxed vacation in East Africa. Families can opt for the cottage that has two connecting rooms with one of the rooms furnished with three beds for children. Every one of the rooms has its own private bathroom. One of the cottages is more spacious and has been specially adorned keeping honeymooning couples and romantics in mind. Sosian Lodge has its own vegetable and fruit garden where they grow organic ingredients for the delicious meals they serve, reminiscent of a time of yesteryear farm-like living while on your Laikipia trip with AfricanMecca. A continental breakfast is served after your morning game drive on the lodge patio or on the riverside. You can opt to have lunch at the poolside or request that a picnic meal be arranged for you in the shrubland. Have a refreshing tea/coffee and cake snack before you proceed out for your afternoon game drive returning to the lodge for a delightful sundowner cocktail or pre-dinner drinks and a time of catching up with the day’s events around a campfire. Dinner is served in the Sosian’s dining area or al fresco with the stars creating a twinkling umbrella above you. Begin your morning game drive after a wake up cup of warm beverage and some fruit or biscuits. Game drives are typically organized in the cooler hours of the morning and late afternoon under the direction of an expert guide. From your special safari vehicle, you could spot animals like lions, buffaloes, elephants and sometimes, wild dogs, among others while grazers like elands, hartebeest, zebras, impalas and more wander among the grasslands. Sosian has some 350 species of birds and your guide will amaze you with his knowledge of their names and behavior. You could spend the afternoons of your laidback safari holiday in Kenya splashing in the pool below Sosian's waterfall or fishing in the river. Alternatively, you could relax beside the swimming pool back at the lodge or play a game of tennis in their court. Or simply retire to your room for a nap. After dinner, you could go on a night driving safari to view nocturnal animals like aardvarks, mongooses, genet cats and perhaps the shy leopard. Sosian Lodge can also arrange for you to sleep in the open in snug sleeping bag beside a camp fire, unobtrusively guarded by Maasai and Samburu warriors. Leisurely walks in the bush with your naturalist guide for company, along with horse and camelback safaris are other activities to explore the wonders of the Laikipia on your active-adventure tour in Africa.
