GUIDE ON SEGERA RETREAT IN KENYA
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Segera Retreat
Segera Retreat, situated in the heart of the Laikipia Plateau, is an impressive up-scale accommodation set within vast savannah plains etched with wild rivers and cascading waterfalls. The retreat was founded to support and enhance conservation and community activities that ensure the land, wildlife and peoples in the area thrive for generations to come. For your premier Laikipia tour of Segera Conservancy, choose from 8 unique and individually designed villas, all highlighting local materials, distinct construction architecture, fine antique furniture and African artwork. Six boutique villas are built of timber and thatch on raised platforms. Inside, a warm ambience is created by golden wood floors that shimmer in the natural light that floods the entire space. Enjoy views of absolute perfection from the lounge chairs on your private deck, and as the sun sets, find peace and tranquility in your own hot tub that is partially sheltered by native stone walls. For those quiet conversations about your wilderness trip in Kenya with AfricanMecca, relax by your fireplace with a glass of wine. For small families of four, Segera Retreat offers a special “house” with an elevated observation deck, private garden, lounge area, salt-water pool and fireplace in the sitting area. As you approach the “Segera House”, you will notice a touch of classic East African safaris as a vintage Rolls Royce and Landcruiser are parked outside the luxurious villa. We recommend Villa Segera for couples who seek a private, intimate and romantic escape and also primarily for luxuriant honeymooners. The villa consists of two separate wooden structures that are connected by a swing bridge and features a private verandah, lounge area, salt-water pool and private garden. Enjoy complete flexibility and freedom during your exploratory holiday in the wilds of central Laikipia. Start you day with a fresh cup of tea or coffee that is brought to your room by a homely staff. Consider your day’s activities that holistically support the four Wilderness Safaris C’s – conservation, culture, community and commerce. The early morning is an excellent time to join Conservation Unit Rangers to track, monitor and observe wildlife during a game drive or partake of the foot patrol that protects and monitors over the Patas monkeys. Return to the retreat for a divine breakfast of fruit that is grown on the property, as well as other hot dishes where ingredients are sourced from local farms. After breakfast, join the Zeitz Foundation staff to plant trees in the Wangari Maathai Memorial Forest, nap on the outdoor swing bed of your villa or lounge by the pool. After lunch, you have some time to fill before afternoon tea and a mid-day activity, such as visiting the women’s SATUBO group to learn about the Samburu, Borana and Turkana peoples or an afternoon game drive with the rangers. Other Segera vacation activities available are nature walks and camel safaris (read more on when is the best time to visit Laikipia for a Kenyan safari). You may also purchase souvenirs as reminders of your glamorous travel in Kenya with AfricanMecca and to also support local artisans. Visit the Wine Tower to choose your favorite French champagne or African wine for sundowners and dinner.
