BEST TIME TO VISIT LAKE EYASI FOR A NORTHERN TANZANIA SAFARI
An exploratory vacation to northern Tanzania's Lake Eyasi is an admirable choice anytime during the year due to the fluctuating water levels, but there are some subtle variations that you may want to consider. The temperature is almost always warm but being cooler in the evenings through early morning, and the weather rain patterns in the region greatly affect the depth of the lake, which ranges from mostly waterless during the dry season to quite deep as the rains come into the area.
As with other locations in northern Tanzania, the area around Lake Eyasi experiences two rainy seasons and a dry season. The dry season occurs from June to October, but when the rains come into the area, the landscape is transformed into a lush expanse of grasses. The short rains occur in November and December with sporadic showers in humidly hot January and February.
The longer rains occur from middle of March to May, and the additional moisture in the soil does affect walking trails and roads, so you should consider the impact of the weather on the availability and ease of activities for your travel with AfricanMecca.
Since Lake Eyasi is a soda lake with high levels of alkaline, wildlife do not drink from it but they do converge at other outer waterholes which have rain water naturally stored; therefore, it does not matter whether you visit it in the dry or wet, Eyasi is not a mammalian destination. During the wet seasons, though, the deeper lake brings hippo to the area, a popular time for a birding safari tour in East Africa (
The Hadzabe Bushmen and Datoga community are semi-permanently settled so again, the time of the year you visit should not affect the cultural interactions. No matter your budget, spending your dream holidays in Africa will be a spectacular experience! Stretching your travel dollars, though, may mean that you are able to partake of more activities while in Tanzania. While the logistical costs of safari activities remain constant throughout the year, your accommodation at Eyasi may have slightly lower room costs during the rainy season.

AfricanMecca's professionalism and care understands that what distinguishes Africa is its authenticity, the land, people and wildlife who do not share our world of fashion and fanfare that distinguish so many travel companies today.

When visiting Lake Eyasi (Great Rift Valley Lake), we recommend combining it with your Northern Tanzania safari to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti (wildebeest migration). End your trip with a Swahili cultural tour and beach holiday in Zanzibar.
You may optionally extend out to offbeat parks in Southern and Western Tanzania such as Nyerere (Selous), Ruaha or Katavi ending with a chimpanzee trekking safari at Gombe or Mahale by the relaxing Lake Tanganyika.
