GUIDE ON RUSINGA ISLAND LODGE IN KENYA
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Rusinga Island Lodge
At the western Kenya sector of Lake Victoria is Rusinga Island Lodge, a secluded getaway for a relaxing break from your hectic yet unforgettable safari in Kenya’s varied national parks and reserves. Nourish your body and mind amongst gardens of lush grass and striking trees filled with unique birdlife and other small denizens. Let go of all of your worries and stress as the attentive staff see to your every need while instinctively knowing when you need seclusion. 6 guest cottages are available as doubles with king-size beds or twins with two queen-size beds, all with a large en-suite bathroom, living area, dressing area and private verandahs facing the gardens and Lake Victoria. Escape into a space of high-contrast natural stone, thatch and wood that is exceptionally complemented by the ecru light floors, comfy linens, mosquito netting and other decorative accents. All rooms are situated on the same level, making Rusinga Island Lodge a great choice for AfricanMecca guests with limited mobility. The spacious property offers plenty of places to enjoy quiet time and is safe for your children to run and play during your family vacation in Africa. Take a break from your adventurous tour of Lake Victoria with a bit of pampering at the spa and lounging by the swimming pool. Awaken to a soft knock on your door as your senses embrace the aroma of freshly brewed tea and coffee. Spend a few minutes on your verandah before dressing for the day’s activities. We recommend arranging a birding tour early in the morning when the light is perfect for photography. Join an experienced ornithologist for a short boat ride or nature walk to discover the many feathered creatures on the island, many of which are not found in other parts of magical Kenya. Your lakeside Kenyan dream holiday gives you the opportunity to see firsthand African fish eagles, sunbirds, double-toothed barbets, kingfishers and many more of the over 350 bird species recorded at the lake. Return to the camp for an outdoor lunch, and then enjoy a leisurely walk, mountain biking, village visits and other personalized activities. Join other guests for afternoon tea, and then grab your fishing gear and head out to catch your own dinner of Nile perch and tilapia! Imagine fishing in the favorite spots of the local fishermen! Another activity we recommend for a superb trip to Lake Victoria is a walking paleontology tour of the island that includes stops at archaeological sites excavated by the famed Leakeys! Two of the best sites are only a short distance from Rusinga Island Lodge, and you may be lucky enough to learn from the actual archaeologists who sometimes work in the sites dependent on the time of the year. AfricanMecca can also organize community visits, day-travel trip to Ruma National Park, biking around the island and visit to the memorial site for Tom Mboya (read more on where else to stay in Lake Victoria). Return to camp for sundowners and delightful stories of outlandish travels in wild East Africa, followed by dinner that is served in the dining area, gazebo and even on a candlelit jetty. Weather dependent, the lodge can even arrange an evening barbecue around the pool.
