Our Wonderful Tanzania Safari Was Everything We Hoped

We arrived back in North America on Wednesday after a long travel day from Dar Es Salaam to Detroit and then we had a 6 hour drive through a snowstorm to Sault Ste. Marie. A bit of a change from the wonderful warm weather we had in Tanzania.

Thanks again to you for arranging a wonderful trip for us. Everything was great from the fantastic wildlife, the scenery, the people, the accommodations and the food. After leaving North America we arrived in Arusha late Saturday night and spent the first two nights at Songota Falls Lodge just outside of town. It was a nice location allowing us to relax after the long flight.

Over the next few days we went to Lake Manyara and stayed at Kirurumu Manyara lodge which was a great introduction for us on the safari. The next day we were off for Ngorongoro Crater for two days and the first highlight we had was right away spotting a leopard walking across the road. The view from our balcony of the Ngorongoro Serena lodge was fantastic. We then drove towards the Serengeti with wildebeest and zebras running everywhere was an unforgettable sight.

We spent three nights at Lake Masek tented camp which was probably our favourite spot. Located right by a hippo pool we saw herds of elephants and wildebeest right from the sundeck in front of the main lodge.

Next up was two days at Selous game reserve where we stayed at Selous Serena camp. It was warmer here and we found a group of wild dogs cooling off near a pool of water. We were rewarded with a couple of cold beers after a long day on the road !! Sadly, but all good things must come to an end. We were taken back to the airstrip where a family of elephants said goodbye as we took off for Dar es Salaam just in a nick of time before darkness fell. We had an absolutely unforgettable time.

Both our guides were outstanding with so much knowledge imparted at every turn. They were so considerate of our concerns throughout and took their time to explain over and over again if called for. The wisdom and sense of humour was much appreciated!! The most important item though were the excellent quality and knowledge of the guides. I will never forget Amrod Olotu’s many references to the retired generals and the “rich” man impalas with a big herd of females etc. plus Jumbe Ngarama’s detailed descriptions of the very large hermit hills at Selous and for being an Arsenal soccer (English football) supporter like myself – such a coincidence.

We were very impressed with out tented accommodations, the staff and the food were exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the wildlife in their natural environment. The safari was everything we had hoped for and we will certainly tell all our friends about the excellent service we received throughout.

Again, both Liz and I are extremely pleased with everything and would travel with AfricanMecca Safaris again in the future should the situation arise. Hope you are doing well!!
