Perfect Samburu, Naivasha, Masai Mara Migration Safari
Perfect Samburu, Naivasha, Masai Mara Migration Safari
Well, our trip was everything you said it would be and more. Everything went off perfectly. When we landed in Nairobi Darlene and James were there to meet us. They took us to the hotel, the Ole Sereni, which was very nice. It was 8:30 at night and after a long flight we went right to bed. The next morning we met up at 6:45 AM and again someone met us right away.
We flew out of Wilson airport to Elephant Bedroom Camp in the Samburu region. When we got off the plane Julius, our guide was there to meet us. He was very knowledgeable and over the next 2 days on the game drives we saw over 30 different species of animals (Lions, Giraffes, Antelope, Monkeys, Crocs, Cheetahs, etc.) close up. In the camp we even had to move while we were eating lunch for an elephant passing through. What an experience! In all the camps we stayed in we were very well protected by the camp guards and always felt safe.
After our 2 night stay at Elephant Bedroom we flew to Lodia House by Lake Naivasha. Again as soon as we got off the plane we were met by our guide Evans. After meeting the fill in manager Rachel ( she was very good) and settling in the Lodge we were again out on game drives. Evans was very knowledgeable about the local animals, especially birds. We did get to lake Nakuru to see the Flamingos which was about an hour away.
When we were there the lake was full of over 50,000 flamingos among hippos and so many other birds I lost count. We saw Rhinos, Zebra, Buffalo, Hippos, Hyena and many more animals. We actually were able to go in the lake with a small boat. Incredible experience! The food back at the lodge, served by Simon and Elias was very good. We usually ate lunch and dinner outside. Sometimes we ate breakfast in the bush by a river.
After 2 nights in Lodia House we flew on to our last stop, Governors Il Moran in the Masi Mara. Again we were met by our guide Enos. As with the other 2 guides he was very knowledgeable about the local birds and animals. We did meet Patrick the manager when we got to camp. He took care of anything we needed. Again on the drives we saw some spectacular things. We sat for 45 minutes and watched a Thompsons Gazelle being born. I only ever saw that on TV. It was incredible! We saw a Wildebeest crossing not once but twice!
At night we were lulled to sleep by the sounds of Hippos talking right outside our tent.We also got to visit the Maasai and Samburu people in their villages. That was very interesting. I took over 7000 photos, if you want to see some of them, let me know and we can meet up sometime. If we ever plan to go to Africa again I would definitely come to see you. Feel free to have anyone who is considering a trip to Kenya to call me for a recommendation.
Thanks for planning our “trip of a lifetime” vacation.
Asante Sana.
