24 Days – 11 Beds – 5 Southern & East Africa Countries
Destination Visited: South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania & Kenya – Johannesburg, Chobe, Victoria Falls, Chobe, Kruger Private Reserve – Motswari Game Reserve, Arusha, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro, Serengeti & Nairobi
EVERYWHERE we went, the people were warm, helpful and charming. You can’t get this type of greeting from people in Europe or here in the US. It was good to stay at the Rosebank Courtyard, the mall next door had good food. Some people may prefer the Hyatt across the street. Chobe was delightful, less than half full. Sussi and Chuma, very nice, again only 13 people in all. Southern Sun, great lobby but Holiday Inn rooms (Westin would have been better). Motswari was our favorite. Again only 5 to 7 people here. Serena Lodges, all very nice, but more people. Ole Sereni – the hotel in Nairobi was great, good food and nice setting and a good way to end the trip.
Each of the guides were very good with a good narrative about the area between the airport and hotel. All the game drives and river cruises were excellent. Our best guides were at Motswari (Shadrack) and Tanzania (Maulidi), both wonderful men. If you can give them feedback, tell them they were wonderful.
All accommodations were very good to excellent. If I had known better, I would have taken the Westin in Cape Town, we are Starwood members. The best was Motswari with the Southern Sun the worst. The Serena Lodges were very nice, with scenic locations. City tours were good. In Cape Town, a full day to the cape and wine area vice two half days, would make for less driving. Dining was the best at Motswari, followed closely by Chobe and Sussi and Chuma and the restaurants in Cape Town (the Twelve Apostles was great – thanks Raza).
The Serena circuit was OK, too many people to make it really good. Near the Serengeti, some people if they don’t get to a private game lodge like Motswari, should try Masai Mara where you can drive off road. The ability to get really close is in inspiring.
The restaurants were all wonderful with some of the best food we have had in a long time. 16 segments in 24 days. All flights were good. Only one delay out of Nairobi. We were always met by a person from who knew what they were doing. Trevor in Arusha did a great job of getting our excess luggage to Kilimanjaro airport – thank him if you talk with him. We had great weather, something you cannot control. Even in Cape Town, it was warm and no rain for the days we were there. In general, the cool mornings and warm afternoons were delightful.
Thank you so much. We will be recommending your services to all we see.
