Zanzibar - Custom Regulations
Personal effects, film and cameras, laptops may be brought temporarily free of duty. These and other related products for your use may not be sold in Tanzania before your departure. Sometimes the customs officer may include this information in your passport to display during your exit for the immigration or customs officer. Firearms need a special permit, which must be obtained prior to entry.

Custom officials normally inspect baggage on arrival and departure. They normally ask you to open up your bag to check the contents inside. Please lock all your baggage prior to your departure from your destination, and also on the return. Have your keys handy upon your arrival in Africa.
Specific Tanzania and Zanzibar custom regulations

The following items are allowed free of taxes:
    Portable spirits not exceeding one (1) liter
    Tobacco not exceeding 250 grams
    Cigarettes not exceeding 200 sticks or 50 Cigars
    Perfumed spirits not exceeding one (1) liter
    All other imported goods including those in excess of the above listed goods shall be subject to cash deposit or execution of security bond equivalent to the tax liability. The requirement for cash deposit or security bond may be waived upon application to the Commissioner for Customs. On re-exportation, duties and taxes must be paid on all goods, which cannot be accounted for.
    Restricted Goods: Some imported goods are restricted, therefore, relevant permits must be obtained from respective authorities before goods imported and or released from Customs Control. These include:
